ニ、after的译法
1. 表示时间、空间、顺序方面，译为“在……之后”。如:
* Documents have to be presented within 14 days after the date of issuance of the bills of lading or other shipping documents.
提单或其他装运单证自签发日后14天内提交。
* The filter is located after the tuned circuit.
滤波器位于调谐电路之后。
2. 表示遵循、按照的意思，可以译为“按照”、“依照”等。如：
* For maximum precision, we can make the thermal measurements after his suggestion.
为了获得更高的精确度，我们可以依照他的建议进行热测量。
3.“afterall +名词”结构表示让步，可译为“尽管”、“虽然”等。如：
After all its merits, the alloy does not measure up to the requirements.
这种合金尽管有许多优点，但还是不符合要求。
三、against的译法
1. 表示方向、位置等方面的対抗与对应，以及两个事物之间的相互作用。翻译时没有固定的译法，应根据句子的意思及汉语的习惯表达方法灵活翻译。如：
* No sooner were the pieces of charcoal rubbed against the glass rod than electricity appeared on the rod.
木炭屑同玻璃棒一摩擦，玻璃棒就带电。
2. 表示反对或相反的意思，可译为“不”、“违背”、“反对”等。如：
* Power amplifiers often use current drive against voltage drive.
功率放大器常用电流激励，而不是用电压激励。
3. 表示防备的意思，可译为“防止”、“以防”等，汉译时要注意灵活处理译文。如：
* It is necessary to prevent induction motors against overload and undervoltage.
必须保护感应电动机，防止过载和欠压。
