并列连词主要用来连接平行的词、词组或句子。英语中常用的并列连词主要有简单并列连词（and, besides，but, for，however，while，yet 等）及复合并列连词（as well as， both...and, either...or等)。and可以表示平行、顺接、转折、让步、对照、评注等。
1. 当and连接句子内的两个对等的并列成分时，可以译为“和”、“与”、“并”、“及” 或“以及”等，有时也可省译。如：
* Shell type reamers sacrifice some rigidity and accuracy.
套式绞刀多少会降低刚度和精度。
* The pattern material melts and vaporizes as the metal is poured.
浇铸金属时，模料熔化并气化。
* Electric light, electric heat and electric driving power can be produced without dirt or noise where they are needed, and can be quickly and easily controlled.
电力照明、电热以及电动力的供应没有灰尘和噪音，随处都能使用，并且能迅速容易地控制。
* The size and the type of foundation depend on the nature of the ground and the load carried by it.
基础的尺寸和类型取决于地基的自然状况以及地基所承受的荷载。
2. 当and连接的词、短语或句子表示对比意义时，可译为“而”，有时可以省译。如：
* A collection of data is called a data set, and a single observation a data point.
一批数据叫数据集，（而）单个观测结果叫数据点。
* The hydrocarbons containing up to four carbon atoms are usually gases, five to sixteen, liquids, and those containing seventeen or more are usually solids.
含有ー个到四个碳原子的碳氢化合物一般为气体，含有五个到十六个碳原子的碳氢化合物为液体，而含有十七个或更多的碳原子的碳氢化合物通常为固体。
