汉语不出现或不知动作的主体在翻译成英语时,可把无主句译成被动句或主动句,例如:
a. 王先生,刚才有电话找你。
Mr. Wang, you were wanted on the telephone.
Mr. Warig, you were called by somebody.
不知谁打来的电话,故译成被动句或者把宾语变成主语:
You had a telephone/call just now.
b. 不可撤消信用证未经受益人同意,不得(被开证人)任意修改或撤消。
An irrevocable letter of credit may not be amended or cancelled without the consent of the beneficiary. (被动句)
c. 企业应设置“现金日记帐”根据收款凭证、付款凭证,按照业务发生顺序,逐日逐笔登记。每日终了, 应结出帐面余额,并与实际库存核对相符。
The enterprise shall set up a“cash journal”to record daily cash transactions item by item in chronological order based on receipt and payment vouchers. The daily closing balance per account shall be checked against actual cash on hand.
上面c例中的第二句是无主句(从上下文看主语是“企业”),因此把宾语“帐面余额……”评成被动句的主语,强调 “帐向余额”要与“实际库存”一致这点。
d. 本科目核算企业与附属企业之间以及各个附属企业之间的往来款项。
This account shall be used for recording inter-company transactions between the enterprise and its subsidiaries or those between subsidiaries.
上面d例中“本科目”表面看来是句子的主语,何其本身不可能有“核算”、“设置”的功能,只有会计人员才能用它来“核算”款项,在其下面“设置”明细帐,并进行“明细核算”,因此根据这样的理解,用“本科目”作主语翻译成上面那样的被动句子。
