例五：Never give morphine to unconscious patients, patients who have had head injuries, those with respiratory depression or those without pain.

【说明】never =don't 但语气更强。

【译文】切不可对失去知觉者、头部外伤者、呼吸抑制者或无痛觉者使用吗啡。 

2. 部分否定

英语中 all, both, every, many, much, always, often 等词与 not 搭配使用时，表示部分否定。通常译作“不都是”、“不全是”、“不是都”、“不多”、“不常”等。

例一 ：Not all the drugs are absorbed in the stomach.

【译文】并非全部药物都在胃中被吸收。

例二： Both of the substances do not dissolve in water.

【误译】这两种物质都不溶于水。

【应译】这两种物质并不都溶于水。

例三：The invasion of the body by disease-causing organisms does not always lead to the development of an infection.

【误译】病原菌侵入机体总是不会引起感染。 

【应译】病原菌侵入机体并不总是会引起感染。

3. 准否定

除上文提及的否定词外，英语中还有其他许多表示否定意义的词和词组，即所谓的准否定词。

(1) 表示准否定的名词有：absence (缺乏、没有），freedom (没有），failure (未能），lack (缺少，没有），inability (不能、无力）等。
