Fallen Flowers
Hao Jing (1223-1275)
As rainbow clouds o'er darkened door, red petals shower;
On jadeite branch is left the trace of fallen flower.
Of peach and plum in eastern breeze dream butterflies;
For moonlit hills and northern walls cuckoo's soul cries.
Jade railings stand in chilly mist amid bare trees;
The beauty gone in Golden Val, wine cups displease.
Don't sweep the blooms spread pellmell in the yard away!
Let vernal beauty stay till the end of the day!
The Hammer Blow
Chen Fu (1240-1303)
How brave to strike at royal cab with hammer blow!
The empire, tottering, began to be brought low.
Though out of molten iron were made statues grand,
The hammer still was made by the rebellious hand.
Snow on the River at Dusk
Chen Fu (1240-1303)
Jade flowers whirl in endless sky;
Sana islets whiten far and nigh.
No traces of wild geese withdrawn,
Cliffs loom at dusk as if at dawn.
The fisherman, cold, will go back,
But he has lost the beaten track.
His boat drifts while he sits asleep;
His cloak melts in mist dense and deep.
