五病所发:阴病发于骨，阳病发于血，阴病发于肉[《太素》、《邪传》作“以味病发于气”，按“以味”应据杨注作“五味”]，阳病发于冬，阴病发于夏，是谓五发。

The five diseases occur in different locations or seasons are: the kidney is a solid organ of Yin and it takes charge of the bone, the disease of kidney stems from the bone marrow; the heart is a solid organ of Yang and it takes charge of the blood, the disease of heart stems from the blood; the spleen is a solid organ of Yin, it takes charge of the muscle, the disease of spleen stems from the muscle; the liver is a solid organ of Yang, it associates with spring, but its disease stems from winter; the lung is a solid organ of Yin, it associates with autumn, but its disease stems from summer. These are the cases of the diseases of the five solid organs stem from. They are called the five occurrences.

五邪所乱[《太素》“所乱”作“入”]:邪入于阳则[《太素》“则”下有“为”字]狂，邪入于阴则[《太素》“则”下有“为血”二字]痹，搏阳则为巅疾[《太素》作“邪入于阳搏则为巅疾”]，搏阴则为疳，阳入之阴则[《太素》“则”作“病”]静，阴出之阳则怒[《太素》作“病善怒”]，是谓五乱。

When the five solid organs being invaded by the evil-energy, different affections will occur: when the evils enter into Yang, heat will disturb one's consciousness and mania will occur; when the evils enter into Yin, the circulation of blood will be disturbed, arthralgia due to blood disorder will occur; when the evils enter into Yang to cause adverseness of the vital energy, dian disease will occur; when the evils enter into Yin to cause the damage of Yin-fluid, dumbness of the patient will occur; when the evils turn from Yang to Yin and Yin becomes overabundant, the patient will become calm; when the evils turn from Yin to Yang and Yang becomes overabundant, the patient will get angry often. These are the diseases caused by the five evils.

五邪所见，春得秋脉，夏得冬脉，长夏得春脉，秋得夏脉，冬得长夏脉，名日阴出之阳[林校云:“按‘阴出之阳病善怒’已是前条，此再言之文义不伦，必古文错简”]，病善怒不治，是谓五邪。皆同命，死不治。

The pulse conditions of the five evils are: when floating pulse of autumn is seen in spring, when stony pulse of winter is seen in summer, when wiry pulse of spring is seen in long summer, when hooked pulse of summer is seen in autumn, and when soft and floating pulse of long summer is seen in winter. These are the conditions of evil pulse which should not occur. If any of them is seen in the four seasons, the disease will not be cured.

五藏所藏:心藏神，肺藏魄、肝藏魂，脾藏意[《五行大义》引“意”作“志”]，肾藏志[《五行大义》“志”作“精”]，是谓五戴所藏。

There are different storings in the five solid organs: the heart stores mind, the lung stores inferior spirit, the liver stores spirit, the spleen stores will and the kidney stores essence. These are the storings of the five solid organs.

五藏所主:心主脉，肺主皮，肝主筋，脾主肉，肾主骨，是谓五主。

The different functions of the five solid organs are: the heart promotes the circulation of the blood, so the heart takes charge of the vessel; the lung spreads the energy to the surface of the skin, so the lung takes charge of the skin; the liver stores the blood and disperses its essence to nourish the tendon, so liver takes charge of the tendon; the spleen transports and converts the water and cereals to nourish the muscle, so the spleen takes charge of the muscle; the kidney stores the essence and generates the marrow to nourish the bone, so kidney takes charge of the bone. These are the functions of the five solid organs.

五劳所伤:久视伤血，久卧伤气，久坐伤肉，久立伤骨，久行伤筋，是谓五劳所伤。

The five kinds of impairment by overstraining are: protracted watching will overstrain the heart and impair the blood; protracted lying will overstrain the lung and impair the energy: protracted sitting will overstrain the spleen and impair the muscle: protracted standing will overstrain the kidney and impair the bone; protracted walking will overstrain the liver and impair the tendon. These are the five kinds of impairments by overstraining.

五脉应象:肝脉弦，心脉钩，脾脉代，肺脉毛，肾脉石，是谓五藏之脉。

The pulse condition of the five solid organs corresponding to the four seasons are: the liver pulse corresponds to spring and it appears to be wiry: the heart pulse corresponds to summer and it appears to be hooked; the spleen pulse corresponds to long summer and it appears to be intermittent; the lung pulse corresponds to autumn and it appears to be floating ; the kidney pulse corresponds to winter and it appears to be stony. These are the pulse condition of the five solid organs.
