Hypocardiac qi syndrome is usually caused by weakness with prolonged illness or impairment of the cardiac qi by mental irritation. When cardiac qi becomes weak, it cannot propel blood circulation, resulting in palpitation, short breath, and thready or dropped-beat pulse. On the other hand, prolonged weakness of cardiac qi may lead to the weakness of cardiac yang. With the general loss of yang，the body is deprived of its warming source, causing cold limbs and a pale complexion. In the case of exhausted cardiac yang, weiqi can no longer protect essential qi from dispersing , causing polyhidrosis and a fading thready pulse.
译文说明：
(4) “心气虚弱证”亦可译作hypocardio qi syndrome，这也是我们谈到词素层翻译时一再强调的。考虑到读者的接受能力及中医翻译规范化的进程，译文略微作了一些修改，译为hypocardiac qi。当然，“心气虚弱证”也可以译作asthenic syndrome of cardiac qi。这一译法同样也具有回译性。
(5) “久病体虚”中的“体虚”不宜译作body asthenia或deficiency， 而应译作weakness。因为“久病”中或之后人体的状况是 weakness，不是 deficiency 或 asthenia。另外,“久病”宜译作chronic illness 或 prolonged illness，不宜译作 chronic disease 或 prolonged disease ,这是一个习惯问题。
(6) “气虚心力不足”主要讲的是“气虚”，所以译作when cardiac qi becomes weak,因为“心力不足”已反映在“不能正常运行血液”这一语义中了，故不再重复译出。另外，“运行血液”实际上指的是推动血液的循环，故译为propel blood circulation。
(7) “再说”意即从另一方面来讲，故译作on the other hand, 语气上起到一个转折的作用，符合英语的行文要求。
(8) “全身阳气缺乏，乏力失温”一句的翻译需作深层分析。 在英语中，“全身”这个概念往往用general来表示，如general edema (全身水肿），general pain (全身性疼痛），general infection (全身性感染）等。有时也可用systematic，但有一定的局限性。所以“全身阳气缺乏”译为general loss of yang。“乏力失温”是“全身阳气缺乏”造成的，所以译文用with引出致因（With general loss of yang)，将其以主句形式译为 the body is deprived of its warming sources。其中the body是根据行文要求及原语语义结构而增加的，deprived of warming source是对“先温”的深化性释义。
(9) “体表之卫气”没有照字面直译。因为卫气本身“循皮肤之中，分肉之间”，所以“体表”便无需译出，只译力weiqi即可。
