(1)“肾阴”和“肾阳”亦可译作nephric yin和nephric yang。现在较为流行的另一种译法是 kidney yin and kidney yang,因 kidney是名词，所以还是使用其形容同renal或nephric为好。另外，按照词素翻译法的要求，译作nephroyin和nephroyang可能更为可行。译文因考虑到中医翻译发展的现实，所以采取了折衷性的译法。

(2) “本”的译法应因文而定。在谈到疾病的标本时，“本”可译作principal (标相应地译作subordinate或secondary)。这里译作source主要是为了强调。
例2:脾的运化功能失调必然导致水液在体内的停滞，而产生湿、痰、饮等病理产物，甚则导致水肿。
