出于译文表达的需要，英语句子的主语在不同的情况下可以转换为汉语的宾语、谓语、定语、偶或状语。

(一）转換为宾语

在“正反处理译法”一讲中，我们已经提到英语的被动句往往可以反译为汉语的主动句。实际上，在进行这样的反译时，英语句子的主语在不少情况下就转换为汉语的宾语了。例如：

1. Orlando company has been authorised by the US Army to make the following statement.

美国陆军授权奥兰多公司发表如下声明。

2. A 0.3m space is left between the target plates.

两块靶板之间留有0.3米的间隙。

3. Modern industry requires that more and more natural gas be tapped.

现代工业要求开发越来越多的天然气。

4. In 1948, a new device, the transistor, was announced by Bell Telephone Laboratories.

1948年，贝尔电话实验室把一种新的元件——晶体管公诸于世。

英语“there be”句型中的主语常要转译为汉语的宾语。例如：

5. There might be an explosion when it is heated,

加热时，可能发生锩炸。

6. There have been many great physicists in the past , and there will come many in the future.

过去已经造就出许多伟大的物理学家，将来也必定是这样。

有时，为了汉语表达上的方便，英语主动句等句型中的主语也可转译为汉语宾语。例如：

7. A laser designator must participate in each target engagement.

每一次攻击目标时都必须使用激光指示器。

8. Some 100,000 bacteria live on every square centimetre of human skin.'

每平方厘米的人体皮肤上大约有十万个细菌。

9. Death would ensue immediately should the heart stop beating.

如果心脏停跳，就会立即导致死亡。

10. Throughout the world come into use the same signs and symbols of mathematics.
