岐伯日:寒气客于脉[《太素》“脉”作“肠”]外则脉寒[《太素》“脉”并作“肠”]，脉寒则缩踡，缩踡则脉[《太素》并作“肠”]绌急，绌急则外引小络，故卒然而痛，得炅[音窘，热也]则痛立止;因重中于寒，则痛久矣。

Qibo said:"When cold-evil invades the outside of the intestine and causes the intestine to contract cold, the intestine will be shrinking and winding like being sewed, as it affects the fine collaterals outside, pain will occur suddenly; but the pain can be ceased if only heat is attached. But if it is invaded by cold-evil again, the pain will not be alleviated in a short time.

寒气客于经脉之中，与炅气相薄则脉满，满则痛而不可按[滑抄本，柯校本井作“甚而不休”]也。寒气稽留，炅气从上[“上”误，似应作“之”]，则脉充大而血气乱，故痛甚不可按也。

"When the cold-evil invades into the channel and persecutes the heat in the channel, the contention between them will cause the channel to become full and substantial, and the channel will become sthenic. Under this condition, severe and unceasing pain will occur.

"When the cold-evil retains, the heat-evil will appear in the wake of it, and the combat between the cold-evil and the heat-evil will cause the channel to become full and substantial. As the energy and blood are confusing inside, the severe pain will not be able to withstand the pressing.

寒气客于肠胃之间，膜原之下，血[《太素》“血”作“而”]不得散，小络[《宣明论方》“络”作“腹”]急引故痛，按之则血[据王注所据本“血”字应作“寒”]气散，故按之痛止。

"When the cold-evil invades the location between the intestine and the stomach, and the membranes connecting the diaphram, intestine and stomach, if it is not dispersed, the fine collaterals nearby will become tightened, and the drawing will cause pain; but when the evil energy and cold is dispersed by massage and pressing, the pain will be alleviated.

寒气客于侠脊之脉，则深[《史载之方》“则”下无“深”字]按之不能及，故按之无益也。

"When the cold-evil invades into the Du Channel, even a heavy pressing would not be able to reach the focus of the disease, so, the pressing will be ineffective.
