译文繁琐，这是现行的中医翻译中存在的突出问题之一。英语文法向来讲究简洁明快，我们在翻译时也应保持这种文风。“简洁”不但能有效地提高译文的信息密度，而旦也是用以加强语气 的一种修辞手段。如何简洁译文呢？ 如去掉可有可无的成份就是其中一种。

在汉英翻译中，有些词语在上下文中的作用是很明显的，在结构本身就能得到说明，因此不必一一译出。例如：
1. 夫精者，生之本也。
It is the essence that functions as the base of life.
译文说明：
译文仿原译的结构，意在强调“精”的重要性。但这个强调句本身却不够简洁，没有发挥出强调的作用。其实这里完全不必使用it is…这样一种结构，function as也完全可以省略掉，使用一个简单的判断句就行了，译文可改为：
Essence is the base of life 或
Essence is essential to life.
2. 肝主身之筋膜
The liver controls the tendons and membranes of the body.
译文说明：
“筋膜”可用tendon —词统而译之，membrane可省略掉。tendons自然在人体内，所以of the body亦可省略掉。
3. 水为阴，火为阳。
Water pertains to yin, and fire pertains to yang.
译文说明：
从结构和修辞上看，后一个pertains完全可省略掉，因为前一个pertains可兼述后者。所以这个译文
可改为：
Water pertains to yin and fire to yang.
4. 肾中精气，是机体生命活动之本，对机体各方面的生理活动均起着极其重要的作用。
The essence in the kidney, which is the base of the life activities of tbe body, plays a very important role in all the aspects of physiological activities in the body.
