3. 分词作状语的译法
英语的分词和分词短语作状语是分词的主要用法之一。分词作状语主要用来修饰句子中的动词，可以表示时间、条件、原因、让步、结果、方式和伴随情況。
(1)分词作时间状语的译法 分词作状语表示时间，在意义上相当于时间状语从句，因此可以译为时间状语从 句，汉译时，可加译“时”、“当……时候”、“在……之后”、“后”等。如：
* Moving out from a source in uniform medium, a wave travels in straight lines.
当波从均匀介质中的波源移出时，呈直线传播。
* Having obtained all these details, the central computer sends back to the driver via the buried electronic unit the best possible route.
中心计算机获得所有这些详情后，就能通过埋在道路下的电子装置将最佳路线提供给驾驶人员。
如果要强调分词短语所表示的动作与谓语动词所表示的动作同时发生，分词短语之前可用when或while等连词。如：
* While carrying the instrument, don't touch anv parts but carrier bars and the bed.
当搬运这台仪器时，除了搬运杆和床座之外，其他零件都不要碰。
