译文B用“ malfunction ”这个加缀的单词替代了译文A中的词组，“ fail to work properly ”。在汉译英时，译者要学会尽可能用一个词来表达多词组的意义。同吋，我们还看到，即使必须用使役结构，也应尽量回避“make” 结构。

④ 颐和园有许多有名的建筑，这使其与其他公园有很大不同。

A. There are many famous architectures in The Summer Palace, which make it quite different from other parks.

B. There are many famous architectures in The Summer Palace, which distinguish it from any other parks.

用“distinguish”来替代“make”，避免了“make”结构的过度使用。

⑤ 生态失去平衡是野生动植物，乃至人类生存的最大威胁。 

A. Ecological imbalance is the biggest threat to the survival of wild animals and plants even human beings.

B. Ecological imbalance threatens the survival of wild animals and plants even human beings.

用ー个字“threaten”来替代译文A中的“is the biggest threat to”既简洁又生动。

⑥ 他所受到的欢迎，证明他的这次出访是值得的。

A. The welcome be received approved that his visit was worthwhile.

B. The welcome he received justified his visit.

译文b“justify”这个词意义内涵丰富，这样的词应该成为译者的选择。

此外，译者要学习用“转化法”来表达动作的概念。例如：

⑦到冬天，这个地区生产的蔬菜和水果有三分之二要用卡车运到北方市场去卖。

In winter two-thirds of the vegetables and fruits in this region will be trucked to market in the North.

例中 “to truck” 相当于 “to be carried by truck”

⑧ 公司规定明年钢产量的指标为100万吨。

The company targets steel production of one million tons next year.

例中的 “target” 相当于“to set... as a target” (把……定为目标)。
