c)对像英文的冠词或some这样的词口译时也要格外小心，注意竟思上的细微差别。例如：“在西方人看来，中国人好像怕民主，怕选举，其 实不然。” (In the eyes of some Western people, it seems that Chinese are afraid of democracy or election. Actually, this is not true.) 如果译为“in the eyes of the Western people”,传达的意思会是指所有西方人都持这样的态度，而这并不是讲话者要表达的意思，也不是事实，所以译为in the eyes of some Western people，而“中国人”此处译为Chinese，泛指中国人，但如果译为the Chinese people则是“中国人民”的意思了。

 

some可以起量词作用，也可以用作类指，例如“一些分裂分子企图把西藏从中国领土分裂出去”中“一些”的意思是言其少，不是类指，但是如果口译为“Some separatists are attempting to split Tibet from China”，那么some就有可能被理解为分裂主义分子中一些是有分裂企图的，而其他的没有这样的企图。要避免此类歧义，可省略“一些”只译separatists。

2.选词要注意一词多义。

一词多义是汉语与英语共有的特点。在外交口译中常常需要译员迅速根据话语语境正确地判断并译出确切的词义。例如：“重视”一词在外交语言中的使用率很高，英译时是用 attach importance to, pay attention to, value 还是take...seriously等需要根据语境选取。在前面提到的记者会上，杨洁篪外长三次说到“重视”。

 

其一，“中方一直高度重视推进中法关系”，译为China has always attached great importance to promoting relations with France,体现了我们一贯的态度；其二、“但是具体领域的外交，我们现在需要更重视”，译为 Let me say a few more words about what I mean by diplomacy in specific areas, areas which I believe we should pay more attention to.说明了要给予更多的关注；其三、是在回答记者有关“饺子事件”的提问时，他说：“我们中国政府各有关部门十分重视产品的质量和食品的安全。”在此语境中，The Chinese government and relevant government departments take food quality and safety very seriously.非常准确地表达了中国政府认真严肃和负责的态度。

 

同样，温家宝总理在2009年的中外记者招待会上说政府将百倍重视大学生和农民工的就业问题，此处也译为：The government will take this issue very seriously. 另外，“中国政府一向重视和支持两国企业开展互利合作”，可译为：TheChinese government values and supports mutually beneficial cooperation between companies of both countries. 但是对于温家宝总理在上述场合讲到的“发达国家尤其要重视对发展中国家的资金援助和政策支持”，则要译为：Developed countries should pay more attention to giving financial and policy support to developing countries. 在2010年的记者招待会上温家宝总理谈到“要髙度重视农业”，接着他进一步说明了农业不但是整个经济的命脉而且对2010年中国经济发展尤为重要，译员选用give priority to来表达这里“高度重视”的意思，可以说准确地表达了我国政府把农业看作国家经济能否稳定较快发展的关键的意思。同样是“重视”，但是在不同的语境下，外交译员根据对政策的理解及对被谈及问题的了解釆用了不同的译法，淸楚地传达了意思上的区别。 

 

经常遇到的此类中文词语还包括“积极的（地)”、“关心”、“统筹”等。 

1）比较下列“积极的（地）”的译法 

中国积极考虑设立常驻东盟机构。

China will give positive consideration to the establishment of a permanent body to ASEAN.

地区国家为早日解决阿富汗问题发挥积极作用。

Countries in the region can play a positive role in bringing about an early solution to the Afghan issue.

各国应扱落实《哥本哈根协议》。

Countries need to actively follow up on the Copenhagen Accord.

中国政府将继续本着高度负责和建设性态度，参与应对气候变化的国际合作。

With a strong sense of responsibility, the Chinese government will continue to play an active and constructive role in 

international cooperation on climate change.
