黄帝曰:其气与针相逢奈何?岐伯曰:阴阳和调[和调:《甲乙》卷一第十六“调”下有“者”字]而[而:《甲乙》卷一第十六无此字]血气淖泽滑利，故针入而气出，疾而相逢也。

Yellow Emperor asked:"What is the condition when the needling response arrives with the pricking in due time?" Qibo said: "When one's Yin and Yang are harmonious, the circulation of his blood and energy are moist and smooth, so, when the needle is inserted, the needling response will arrive along with the pricking in duc time."

黄帝曰:针已出而气独行者，何气使然?岐伯曰:其阴气[阴气，阳气:《甲乙》卷一第十六“阴阳”下并无“气”字]多而阳气少，阴气沉而阳气浮者内藏[浮者内藏:当注本，张注本“浮”字断句，下并有“沉”字]，故针已出，气乃随其后，故独行也。

Yellow Emperor asked: "When the needling response still remains after the pulling off the needle, what energy causes it?" Qibo said: "This is due to the patient has more Yin and little Yang, his Yin energy is sinking and his Yang energy is floating, when the Yin energy is sinking, it harbours inside and can hardly respond, but after the needle is pulled out. The needling response will appear soon after it, so, it is called 'To arrive individually'."

黄帝曰:数刺乃知，何气使然?岐伯曰:此人之多阴而少阳，其气沉而气往难，故数刺乃知也。

Yellow Emperor asked: "When the disease can only be relieved after pricking for many times, what energy causes it?" Qibo said: "People of this kind have more Yin and little Yang, as Yang is harboured inside, the occurrence of the needling response is rather difficult, so, the disease can only be cured after frequent pricking."

黄帝曰:针入而气逆者[而气逆者:丹波元简曰:“按上下文例，‘者’下似脱‘其数刺病益甚者’七字]，何气使然?岐伯曰:其气逆与其数刺病益甚者，非阴阳之气，浮沉之势也，此皆粗之所败，上[上:日刻本，张注本，黄校本并作“工”]之所失，其形气无过焉。

Yellow Emperor said: "When one has adverseness of vital energy after the insertion of the needle, or the disease becomes even worse after frequent pricking, what energy causes it?" Qibo said:"When the adverseness of vital energy occurs or the disease becomes worse after frequent pricking, it is not due to the various conditions of overabundant, deficient, floating or sunken of Yin and Yang, but it is the bad result due to the careless treating, it is the error of the physician and it has nothing to do with the body and energy."
