行针/Xing Zheng

(Needle Transmission)

黄帝问于岐伯日:余闻九针于夫子，而行之于百姓，百姓之血气各不同形，或神动而气先针[针:“针”字疑衍]行，或气与针相逢，或针已出气独行，或数刺乃知，或发针而气逆，或数刺病益剧，凡此六者，各不同形，愿闻其方。

Yellow Emperor asked Qibo said: “I have applied the nine kinds of needle you said to treat the people, as the bloods and energies of them are differnet in abundance and deficiency, and their constitutions are different, so, their needling reponses to the prickings are different. Some of them are excited when being pricked, the needling response comes prior to the pricking; in some of them, the needling response arrives just in time with the pricking; in some of them, the needling response still remains after pulling out of the needle; in some of them, the needling response can only come after several prickings; in some of them, the needling response comes very slowly after the pricking; in some of them, the disease becomes even more serious after pricking for many times. In the six cases, the conditions after pricking are different, and I hope to hear the reason about it."

岐伯日:重阳之人，其神易动，其气易往也。黄帝曰:何谓重阳之人?岐伯曰:重阳之人，熵熵高高，言语善疾，举足善高，心肺之藏气有余，阳气滑盛而扬，故神动而气先行。

Qibo said:"When one's Yang is having a surplus, he is irritable, and the needling response under the needle can be produced easily." Yellow Emperor asked: "What is the condition when one's Yang is having a surplus?" Qibo said: "When one's Yang is having a surplus, he will be gallant and overbearing, rapid in speaking, lifting his feet high while walking, and he appears to be complacent. His energies of the heart and lung are having a surplus, the operation of his Yang energy is smooth, substantial and exultant, thus, when he is touched slightly, there will be a response instantly."

黄帝日:重阳之人而神不先行者，何也?岐伯日:此人颇有阴者也。黄帝日:何以知其颇有阴也?岐伯日:多阳者多喜，多阴者多怒，数怒者易解，故日颇有阴，其阴阳之离[离:《太素》卷二十七《邪传》无此字]合难，故其神不能先行也。

Yellow Emperor asked: "For the people whose Yang is having a surplus, they can not express the hypersensitiveness of their minds in advance, and what is the reason?" Qibo said:"People of this kind have somewhat Yin energy inside." Yellow Emperor asked: "How to know they have somewhat Yin energy inside? Qibo said: "When a man's Yang is having a surplus, he is often joyous, when a man's Yin is having a surplus, he often gets angry, when his anger is always readily to be eliminated, he belongs to the category of Yin in Yang, so, he has somewhat Yin energy inside. People of this kind have more Yang and little Yin, and the Yin and Yang can hardly conform to each other,so, they can not express the hyper-sensitiveness of mind in advance."
