黄帝曰:愿闻五官。岐伯曰:鼻者，肺之官也;目者，肝之官也;口唇者，脾之官也;舌者，心之官也;耳者，肾之官也。

Yellow Emperor said: "I hope to hear about the functions of the five sense organs." Qibo said:"The nose belongs to the lung, it takes charge of the respiration;the eyes belong to the liver, they take charge of the sight seeing: the mouth belongs to the spleen, it takes charge of receiving the water and cereals; the tongue belongs to the heart, it takes charge of distinguishing the tastes¡ the ears belong to the kidney、 they take charge of hearing."

黄帝曰:以官何候?岐伯曰:以候五脏。故肺病者，喘息鼻胀;肝病者，眦青;脾病者，唇黄;心病者，舌卷短[舌卷短:《甲乙》卷一第四“舌”下无“卷”字]，颧赤;肾病者，颧与颜黑。

Yellow Emperor asked: "How can one diagnose by examining the complexion?" Qibo siad: "One can diagnose the condition of the five viscera by examining the five sense organs. When the lung has disease, one will have rapid respiration and his nosetril will be stirring ; when the liver has disease, onc's canthus will be green; when the spleen has disease, one's mouth and lips will be dry and yellow; when the heart has disease, one's tongue will become short and his cheekbones are red; when the kidney has discase, one's cheeks and the forehead will be black."

黄帝曰:五脉安出，五色安见，其常色殆者如何?岐伯曰:五官不辨，阙庭不张，小其明堂，蕃蔽不见，又埤其墙，墙下无基，垂角去外，如是者，虽平常殆，况加疾哉。

Yellow Emperor asked: "It will be very dangerous when one's pulse condition and the complexion are normal but he has disease, what is the reason?" Qibo said: "When one's complexion is not distinet, his forehead is not broad, his nose is narrow, his cheeks and tragus are not apparent, his face is narrow without any flesh in the lower part, his frontal eminence is bogging down and the gum of teeth is revealing outside, he has the symptom of tending to live a short life even he has no disease, let alone he has discase."

黄帝曰:五色之见于明堂，以观五脏之气，左右高下，各有形乎?岐伯曰:府[府:张注本作“五”脏之在中也，各以次舍，左右上下，各如其度也。

Yellow Emperor said: "The five complexions appear on the nose where one can observe the energies of the five viscera, is there any specific image in the middle, left, right, upper and lower positions?" Qibo said: "Each of the five viscera has a definite location in the chest and the abdominal cavity. when the complexions are reflected on the nose, there are also regular criterions in left, right, upper and lower positions."
