"When one pricks the position of summer by mistake in autumn, the disease will not be healed, and the patient will become more and more addicted to sleep with dream.

"When one pricks the position of winter by mistake in autumn, the disease will not be healed, and the patient often feels chilly.

"When one pricks the position of spring by mistake in winter, the disease will not be healed, the patient can not fall into sleep even when he is very tired, even if he has fallen into sleep, it is like something being seen in dream.

"When one pricks the position of summer by mistake in winter, the disease will not be healed, adverseness of vital energy of the patient and also the bi-syndrome or numbness will occur.

"When one pricks the position of autumn by mistake in winter, the disease will not be healed, and the patient will often be thirsty.

凡刺胸腹者，必避五藏。中心者环死，中脾者五日死，中肾者七日死，中肺者五日死，中鬲者，皆为伤中，其病虽愈，不过一岁必死。刺避五藏者，知逆从也。所谓从者，两与(“两”上疑脱“知”字]脾肾之处，不知者反之。刺胸腹者，必以布馓著之，乃从单布上刺，刺之不愈复刺。刺针必肃，刺肿摇针，经刺勿摇，此刺之道也。

"When one pricks on the chest of abdomen of the patient, he should pay attention to avoid hurting the viscera. If the heart is pricked, the patient will die in one day; if the spleen is pricked, the patient will die in five days; if the kidney is pricked, the patient will die in seven days, if the diaphram is pricked, which is called hurting the middle, although the disease can turn to the better temporarily, but due to the disorder of the visceral energy, the patient will die in a year.

"The crux for one to keep away from the viscera in pricking is to know the adverse and agreeable ways in pricking. The so called agreeable way is to know the positions of the organs of diaphram, spleen, kidney etc. , and one should take good care to avoid them; if one does not know their positions and does not avoid them, the five viscera can easily be hurt, which is called the adverse way. So it is neccessary before pricking the chest or abdomen to wind the chest or abdomen with cloth to avoid hurting the viscera by deep pricking. If the pricking has no curative effect, it should be pricked again.

"In pricking, the inserting of needle should be quick in action; when treating a disease of swelling, the method of rotating the needle to remove the evil may be applied; if the pricking is on the channel, rotating method is not neccessary. These are the essentials of acupuncture."

帝曰：愿闻十二经脉之终奈何?岐伯曰:太阳之脉，其终也，戴眼，反折瘈㿅，其色白【明抄本“白”作“黑”】，绝汗乃出，出则死矣。少阳终者，耳聋，百节皆纵，目睘【《甲乙》校注云:“一本无“睘”字，按《灵柩经・经始篇》作“目系绝”】绝系，绝【“系”字衔，上“系”字连“绝”字之头，应作“系绝一日半死”】系一日半死，其死也【《难经・二十四难杨注引无“死也”二字》】，色先【“先”字衍】青白，乃死矣。阳明终者，口目动作，善惊，妄言，色黄，其上下经盛，不仁【《灵枢・终始》“仁”作“行”字】，则终矣。少阴终者，面黑，齿长而垢，腹胀闭，上下不通而终矣。太阴终者，腹胀闭不得息，善噫【《难经・二十四难》虞注引无“善噫”二字，似衍】善呕，呕则逆，逆则面赤，不逆【“逆”字误，应作“呕”】则上下不通，不通则面黑，皮毛焦而终矣。厥阴终者，中热嗌乾，善溺心烦，甚则舌卷卵上缩而终矣。此十二经之所败也。

Yellow Emperor asked:"What are the conditions about the severing of the twelve channels?" 

Qibo answered:"In the severing of the Taiyang channel, the patient will look up staring continuously with the two eyes, the back of the body is like a bow bending in the opposite direction, the extremities are cramping with the severing of sweat, and when the severing of sweat occurs, the patient will die.

"In the severing of the Shaoyang channel, the 'patient will become deaf, the joints of the whole body become loose, the connection of visual scene severs, and when it severs, the patient will die in one and half days. Just before dying, there occurs the green and white colours in the patient's complexion, and then dies immediately.

"In the severing of the Yangming channel, the mouth and the ears of the patient will be wide open; he is frightened extremely, ramble in his statement with yellow complexion, if the Hand and Foot channels are in hyperirritability which fail to keep operating, the patient will die.

"In the severing of the Shaoyin channel, the patient appears to have black complexion, his teeth feel like longer with plenty tartars, and his abdomen is feeling fullness and has retention of feces and urine. When his upper part and the lower part fail to communicate with each other, the patient will die.

"In the severing of the Taiyin channel, the patient will be feeling distending and blocking in the abdomen, difficult in respiration and vomit often, the vomiting causes the adverseness of the energy, and the adverseness of energy causes the complexion to become red. If the vomiting stops, the communication between the upper part and the Iower part of the body will be blocked, then, the complexion of the patient will become black, and his skin and its fine soft hair will be withered extremely, in this condition, the patient will die.

"In the severing of the Jueyin channel, the chest of the patient will become hot with dryness of his throat, frequency of urination and restless. When the disease is serious, the symptoms of curled tongue and retracted testes will occur , and in this case, the patient will die. These are the symptoms of the severing of the twelve channels."
