色见上下左右，各在其要，上为逆，下为从。女子右为逆，左为从；男子左为逆，右为从。易，重阳死，重阴死。阴阳反他，治在权衡相夺，奇恒事也，揆度事也。

"One should observe carefully the guest colour appears on the upper, lower, left or right side of the nose to discover its movement. When it moves upwards, it is in the reverse direction, when it moves downwards, it is in the agreeable direction; for a women, when the guest colour is moving from right to left, it is reversing, when it is moving from left to right, it is agreeable; for a man, if the guest colour is moving from left to right, it is reversing, when it is moving from right to left, it is agreeable. If the moving direction of the man and woman is alternating to change from agreeable to reversing, for a man, it is double Yang, and for a woman, it is double Yin. Both patients with double Yang or double Yin are apt to die.

"As to the patient whose Yin and Yang is different with others, should be treated by weighing the comparative importance to reverse the abnormal condition to become normal. Since this is an irregular disease, one must diagnose it with great care.

搏脉，痹躄。寒热之交。脉孤为消气【《太素》“消”下无“气”字】，虚泄【《太素》作“虚与泄”】为夺血。孤为逆，虚为从。行奇恒之法，以【“以”误，应作“从”】太阴始。行所不胜曰逆，逆则死；行所胜曰从，从则活。八风四时之胜，终而复始，逆行一过，不复可数，论【《太素》“论”作“诊”】要毕矣。

"When the pulses beat under the fingers, and the disease reflected as the bi-syndrome (a syndrome marked by arthralgia and numbness and dyskinesia of the limbs) or flaccidity of feet, they are all caused by the simultaneous occurrng of cold and heat energies. If the pulse appears to be solitary, it shows the Yang-energy is damaged inside; if the pulse appears to be feeble, it is the syndrome of diarrhea and consumption of blood. All the solitary pulses which show the stomach energy in absence are adversing and are of unfavourable prognosis; all the deficient pulses are agreeable and are of favourable prognosis.

"When applying the method of distinguishing, one should begin to palpate from the Cun Kou pulse of Hand Taiyin channel. When the visceral pulse has the trait of another visceral pulse which is overcoming, such as, when the liver (wood) pulse has the trait of lung (meal) pulse, when the lung pulse has the trait of heart (fire) pulse, when the heart pulse has the trait of kidney (water) pulse, when the kidney pulse has the trait of the spleen (earth)pulse,or when the spleen pulsc has the trait of the liver (wood)pulse,it is the adverse pulse, and the patient will die. When the visceral pulse has the trait of another visceral pulse except that which is overcoming, such as, when the liver (wood) pulse has the trait of the kidney (water), heart (fire) or spleen (earth) pulse; when the heart (fire) pulse has the trait of the lung (metal), spleen (earth) or liver (wood) pulse, etc, it is the agreeable pulse, and the patient will survive.

"Each wind from various directions is dominating a season, such as, the east wind dominates spring, and the east associated wood overcomes earth; the south wind dominates summer, and the south-associated fire overcomes metal; the west wind wind dominates autumn, and the west-associated metal overcomes wood; the north wind dominates winter, and the north -associated water overcomes fire. They repeat in cycles, go round and begin again.

"If the weather of the four-season becomes abnormal, it must not be inferred by the common practice. These are the entire essentials of the measuring and distinguishing."
