汤液醪醴论篇/On the Rice Soup, Turbid Wine and Sweet Wine

帝曰:夫病之始生也,极微极精,必先入结[《太素》“入结”作“舍”]于皮肤。今良工皆称曰病成,名曰逆,则针石不能治,良药不能及也。今良工皆得其[《太素》作“持”]法,守其数,亲戚兄弟远近音声日闻于耳,五色日见于目,而病不愈者,亦何暇[《太素》“何暇”作“可谓”]不早乎?岐伯曰:病为本、工为标、标本不得,邪气不服,此之谓也。

Yellow Emperor said:"When the disease was in the initial stage, it was quite superficial and simple, the evil was only hiding in the skin and the disease should have been cured easily. But the physician then ascertained that the disease had already shaped up, which should be treated earlier, so, both acupuncture and decoction would be effective. But in fact, many physicians at the present know well the way of the treatment, many relatives and friends are keeping the patient accompany to look after him, hearing his voice and watching his complexion every day, how can one say that the treatment is not early enough?"

Qibo said:"The patient is the root and the physician is the branch, they must be compatible. Of course, the cooperation of the patient is neccessary, but only the cooperation of the patient without a good physician is not enough, it also called incompatible of the root and branch, and the evil can not be removed either."

帝曰:其有不从毫毛而生[金刻本、胡本、之头本、赵本、周本“而生”二字至乙,“而字属下读,《太素》“其”下有“病”字]五藏阳[《太素》“阳”作“伤”]以蝎也,津液充郭[《太素》作“虚廓”],其魄独居,孤精于内,气耗于外,形不可[《太素》“形不可”作“形别不”]与衣相保,此四极急而动中,是气拒于内,而形施于外,治之奈何?岐伯曰:平治于权衡,去宛陈莝,微动四极,温衣[滑抄本“衣”作“之”],缪刺其处,以复其形。开鬼[按“鬼”疑为“魄”之坏字]门,洁净府,精以时服,五阳已布,疏涤五藏,故精自生,形自盛,骨肉相保,巨气乃平。帝曰:善。

Yellow Emperor said:"Some of the diseases are not initiated from the surface of the body but from the injury of the five viscera directly. Their symptoms appear to be the emptiness of the body fluid, the withering of the spiritual activities, consumption of the essence and blood inside, and the dispersion of the Wei-energy outside. The patient is emaciated and tender to have no more suitable dress to fit the body, and later, occurs the cramping of the four limbs and the weavering of the middle-energy. In short, the vital energy of the viscera are weary inside and the physique is in insubstantiality outside. How should this kind of patient be treated?"

Qibo said:"In treating, one should harmonize the two Yin and Yang channels of the solid and hollow organs, remove the stagnated blood and eliminate the accumulated water, make the patient to excercise his extremities slightly, to cause the Yang energy to spread gradually: then, try to make the patient to perspire thoroughly, and keep his urination unobstructed, besides, give the patient, according to the condition, some medicine on due time. When the Yang-energy in the five viscera of the patient being spread, the stagnations in the five viscera being cleared, his essence and energy will be sure to regenerate, his body will certain become strong, his bone and muscle will supplement each other again, and his stagnated energy inside will be removed naturally."Yellow Emperor said:"Good!"
