出于汉语的表达习惯和修辞的需要，英语的有些状语从句，不管是位于主句之前或之后，都可以改变原来位置而插译在主句的主谓语之间。试看以下各例。

1) The primitive man lived in the damp blackness of vast forests , as the pygmies of Africa do to this day.

原始人就象现在的非洲矮人一样，住在大森林中潮湿阴暗的地方。(方式状语从句）

2) The uses of semiconductors were determined after their properties became understood.

半导体的用途是在人们了解其性质之后才确定的。（时间状语从句）

3) Sorne materials are called good conductors because electricity goes through them well.

某些材料因导电性好而被称为良导体。（原因状语从句）

4) The universe is much more complicated than you think.

宇宙要比你想象的复杂得多。（比较状语从句）

5) We do our utmost in order that we may be able to overfulfil the task.

我们为提前完成任务而全力以赴。（目的状语从句）

6) All living things respire as long as they live.

一切生物，只要舌着，就要呼吸，（条件状语从句）

如果状语从句本来就位于主句的主谓语之间，当然可按原顺序仍译在主句中，但必要时也可提到主句之前或之后。例如：

7) All matter, whether it is gaseous, liquid or solid, made up of a vast number of extremely small particles.

一切物质，不管是气体、液体或是固体，都是由大量极小的微粒组成的。

8) Car axles and bearings of machinery, if not properly oiled，may be heated until they are damaged.

车轴和机械轴承如不加以适当润滑，就会发热以至烧坏。

9) The normal temperature for a human being, no matter in what part of the world he lives, is about 37℃.

不管生活在世界上什么地方，人的正常体温都在37℃左右。
