商务文本通常有着固定的格式、语言简洁、用词准确、语气正式、非常注重礼貌原则等,这些都是由行业特殊性和目的特殊性而决定的。商务英语词汇的派生能力强、行业术语多、缩略词多、套话多。
例句1:Successful traders buy low and sell high, or short high and cover low, making gains that are greater than their losses when they are wrong.
译文:成功的交易者总是低买高卖,或者是价高时做空而价低时轧平头寸,使收益大于损失。
商务活动是较为正式的人际交往活动,句式也较为正式。虽然句子较长,但语法结构规范,意思表达清楚。
例句2:Throughout our business trip in China, we discovered your increasing interest in dependence on science and technology—but a declining interest in these subjects among young people, which is amplified by the approaching retirement of many of today’s engineers, technicians and researchers.

作为实用文体之一,相对于文学性而言,商务语篇的最大特点是实用性(pragmatism)。实用性的主要特征有:较少带有个人感情色彩;语言朴实,描述事实;多用规范式、程式化的语言等。
