值得一提的是，澳门与东帝汶共享一段相似的历史，关系特殊且密切。500年前，葡萄牙航海者经马六甲海峡进入东南亚和中国海域后，澳门和东帝汶两地便逐步受到了葡萄牙殖民统治。很长一段时期内，澳东两地由同一位葡萄牙总督共管，澳门的主教也长期是东帝汶的主教，当时葡、澳、东三地人员和贸易往来频繁，逐渐形成了相似的文化、宗教、行政和法律制度。这些史实使澳东两地人民具有天然亲近感，并为澳东两地关系发展在新世纪奠定了深厚基础。在东重获独立的次年，即2003年，中国—葡语国家经贸合作论坛成立，中东双方搭建起了中国内地、澳门和东帝汶的三方经贸平台。2011年时任中国政协副主席、前澳门特区行政长官何厚铧访东。东前总统奥尔塔等政府高官、议员等也曾多次组团访澳。目前，澳门与帝力缔结友城协议工作有序推进，澳东两地经贸、人文联系不断深入，已成为中东关系发展的重要组成部分，作用日益重要。

It is worth mentioning that, Macau and Timor-Leste share a similar history and enjoy a special and close relationship. 500 years ago, after Portuguese sailed into the Southeast Asian and Chinese waters through the Strait of Malacca, Macau and Timor-Leste gradually came under Portuguese colonial rule. For some part of history, Macau and Timor-Leste were governed by same Portuguese governors, and the bishops of Macau were also the bishops of Timor-Leste, the personnel and trade exchanges happened frequently among Portugal, Macau and Timor-Leste, while the similar cultural, religious, administrative and legal systems were gradually formed. The shared history mentioned-above has given the peoples of Macau and Timor-Leste a natural closeness, and laid a solid foundation for the relationship between them in the new century. In 2003, just one year after Timor-Leste's restoration of independence, the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau), also known as Forum Macau, was launched, and China and Timor-Leste share a trilateral economic and trade platform for the Chinese mainland, Macau and Timor-Leste. In 2011, Edmund Ho, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Chief Executive of the Macau SAR visited Timor-Leste. Former President Ramos-Horta and other senior Timorese government officials and members of parliament visited Macau several times. Currently, Macau and Dili are working on the sister city agreement. The economic, trade and cultural ties between Macau and Timor-Leste are continuously deepening, which has become an important part and played an increasingly important role of China-Timor-Leste relations.

　　当前，中国特色社会主义进入新时代，“一国两制”事业也进入新时代。随着共建“一带一路”、粤港澳大湾区建设等国家战略的深入实施，澳门在国家发展大局中的地位将越来越重要，蕴含着前所未有的发展机遇。中方坚信，只要坚持“一国两制”方针，坚守“一国”之本、善用“两制”之利，就一定能把握国家所需、发挥澳门所长，创造澳门更加美好的明天。中国驻东帝汶使馆也将携手东各界朋友，发挥好澳门在深化两国交流合作中的作用，深化澳东两地交流合作，推动东帝汶与澳门得到更好发展，让东帝汶这朵海上丝绸之路的珍珠和澳门这朵盛世莲花一同绽放得更加绚丽多彩。

At present, the socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and the cause of "One country, Two systems" has also entered a new era. With the implementation of national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, Macau will play a more important role in the national development with unprecedented opportunities. China firmly believes that, as long as we fully and faithfully implement the policy of "One Country, Two Systems", stay committed to the basis of "One Country" and well leverage the benefits of "Two Systems", we will be able to give full play to Macau's strengths and create a better future for Macau. The Chinese Embassy in Timor-Leste will also join hands with Timorese friends, to bring into full play the role of Macau in deepening exchanges and cooperation between China and Timor-Leste, promote better development of Macau and Timor-Leste. Let Timor-Leste, the pearl along the maritime silk road, and Macau, the lotus of the golden age, bloom and shine together.
