Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Yu Jianhua at the National Day Reception

尊敬的各位来宾，

女士们、先生们，

　　欢迎大家莅临我和张向晨大使、傅聪大使共同举行的招待会，庆祝中华人民共和国成立69周年。

Excellencies,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of H.E. Ambassador Zhang Xiangchen and H.E. Ambassador Fu Cong, I would like to welcome all of you here this evening as we celebrate the 69th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. 

　　69年，在中国历史乃至人类发展史上只是弹指一挥间。然而，就在这段充满探索与奋斗的历史进程中，中华民族迎来了从站起来、富起来到强起来的伟大飞跃。

　　今天的中国，是坚定自信的中国。中共十九大将习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想确立为党必须长期坚持的指导思想，全面开启了中国特色社会主义新时代。思想决定方向，方向决定道路，道路决定命运。在以习近平同志为核心的党中央坚强领导下，中国人民正满怀信心地沿着中国特色社会主义道路奋勇前行！

In the long history of mankind, or the history of China, 69 years might seem a blink of the eye. But in this blink of the eye, a lot happened in China. With much search and struggle, our nation stood on its own feet, achieved prosperity, and grew strong. 

Today, China is determined and confident. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a historic event last year, agreed on a long-term guide of the Party. That is Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. It is a complete system of philosophy that unites the Chinese people in one direction and on one path as a new era dawns on us. Under the leadership of the Party and President Xi, our people are marching forward with every confidence to bring China to a bright future. 

　　今天的中国，是改革创新的中国。惟改革者进，惟创新者强，惟改革创新者胜。回顾过去，在改革创新的时代大潮中，中华民族用勤劳和智慧创造了令世界赞叹的“中国奇迹”。面向未来，中国将坚定不移全面深化改革，积极推进理论创新、实践创新、制度创新以及其他各方面创新，完善和发展中国特色社会主义市场经济，推进国家治理体系和治理能力现代化。中国改革必然成功，也一定能够成功！

Today, China believes in reform and innovation. We see the two as the essential ingredients to advancements, to robustness, and to success. Reform and innovation was there when the Chinese people, with diligence and intelligence, impressed the world with the "China miracle". Reform and innovation will be there as China further develops its theory, practice, and institutions, grows the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics, and modernizes the national governance system and capabilities. Success is sure to follow.
