Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Jiang Jiang at the Reception Marking the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

各位来宾，

女士们、先生们，

　　晚上好。今晚的怡东酒店华灯璀璨，宾客盈门，共同庆祝中华人民共和国成立69周年。

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen, 

Thank you all for accepting our invitation and joining us in celebrating the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

　　69年在历史长河中只是沧海一粟，但对全体中国人民而言具有不同寻常的意义。69年来，中国共产党带领全国各族人民百折不挠，砥砺奋进，实现了从积贫积弱到伟大复兴的历史性跨越。特别是改革开放40年来，中国国内生产总值年均增长约9.5%，对外贸易额年均增长14.5%，7亿多人口成功脱贫，占同期全球减贫人口总数70%以上，创造了人类发展史上的奇迹。作为全球第二大经济体、第一大工业国、第一大货物贸易国、第一大外汇储备国，今天的中国为人类战胜贫困、为发展中国家寻找发展道路提供了成功的实例。

　　在实现自身发展的同时，中国为世界的和平与繁荣做出了积极贡献。从加入世贸组织到共建“一带一路”，为应对亚洲金融危机和国际金融危机发挥重要作用，连续多年对世界经济增长贡献率超过30%，成为世界经济增长的主要稳定器和动力源。

In the vast ocean of history, 69 years is but a tiny drop of water. Yet these past 69 years hold special memories for all Chinese people. 

Through unremitting efforts under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party in these 69 years, the Chinese people have lifted their country out of impoverishment and put it on a path of rejuvenation. The recent four decades of reform and opening up, in particular, have seen a miracle in the human history of development coming true in China - a GDP growing at 9.5% on average annually, foreign trade expanding by 14.5% year on year, and 700 million-strong people moving out of poverty, accounting for over 70% of the global total. 

As the world's second largest economy, the top industrial nation, the largest trader in goods and holder of the biggest foreign exchange reserves, today's China has written its success story for mankind seeking to uproot poverty, once and for all, and for developing countries exploring a path of development suited to one's own national conditions. 

While pursuing its own development, China has also played an active part in fostering world peace and prosperity. It has been a responsible member of the WTO. It put forward the Belt and Road Initiative as a public good for the global community. And it played a key role in tackling the Asian and global financial crises. For years, China has contributed over 30 percent to global growth. It is fair to say the country has become an anchor and main engine of the global economy.
