Good evening!As we prepare to bid farewell to 2014 and usher in 2015, I am glad to gather together with you, both old friends and new. On this cold winter night when the lights are lit along Chang’an Street, we gather together and feel so warm. Here, on behalf of the State Council Information Office, I would like to extend a warm welcome and New Year greetings to our guests tonight.

今年的新年招待会在中国国家博物馆举行。所谓“博物洽闻，通达古今”。中国国家博物馆记载着中华民族五千年的文明足迹，也是中华文明与世界文明对话的窗口。今天出席招待会的各位嘉宾，所做的工作也可用“通达中外”来概括，可以说是异曲同工。

Here we are at the National Museum of China. A Chinese idiom says, “A well-informed person is knowledgeable about both ancient and modern times.” The National Museum of China records the path of China’s 5,000-year civilization, and serves as a channel for communication between this civilization and other civilizations around the world. The work of you guests attending the reception also represents a channel between China and other countries, just like the museum.

过去的一年里，随着中国同世界的联系越来越紧密，国际社会更加关注中国，国际信息中的“中国份额”也更加突出。据不完全统计，截至今年11月底，国外媒体关于中国的英文报道有54万余篇，超过了去年全年的报道量。很多报道生动讲述了中国故事，增进了国际社会对中国的了解、理解。这些报道的很大一部分是外国驻华记者朋友采写的。在这里，我代表国务院新闻办公室，向在场的各位以及其他外国驻华记者朋友表示衷心的感谢！今天，还有很多外国驻华使节和国际组织代表、国际公关公司负责人出席招待会。在此，我也向所有关心和关注中国、积极推动中国与世界交流合作的朋友表示衷心的感谢！

In the past year, as China has built closer ties with the rest of the world, so the international community has directed more attention to China, and China has taken an ever more prominent share in the global sea of information. Statistics show that to the end of November this year, English-language media had published 540,000 reports about China, exceeding the overall total for last year. Many reports tell stories of China in a vivid way, enabling the international community to become more familiar with China, and understand our country better. The majority of these reports were written by foreign correspondents in China. Here, on behalf of the State Council Information Office, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to you present here and to all other foreign correspondents! Today many foreign envoys, representatives of international organizations, and directors of international public relations firms are attending the reception too. I also want to express heartfelt thanks to all those friends who show concern for China and actively promote exchanges and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.
