(5）between一般用来表示以两个指明的日子或日期为界限的时段，是不包括提出作为界限或终端的日子或日期的。然而这条规定不是绝对的，有的场合也表达包括两个终端，或者表示第一个日期要包括在内，最后一个日期不要包括在内。

例4:The appointee may exercise his right between July 1,2008 and July 30,2008.

分析：上句中用了between是否包括July1和July30不清楚。

改译：① The appointee may exercise his right after July 1,2008 and before July 30, 2008. 

          ② The appointee's right begins on July 1, 2008 and ends on July 30, 2008.

(6）from...to...也是常用来表示时间的介词短语，从某一天或指定的日期（例如某一特定行动的日子）开始计算一段时间，开始计算的那个日子或日期要排除在外，而这一时段的最后一天要包括在内。

例5:The fifth clause of the contract specifies that the extension of term of validity of this contract is from June 1, 2003 to June 30, 2003, inclusive of the day of June 30, 2003.

参考译文：合同第五款规定，该合同从2003年6月1号到2003年6月30号这段时间继续有效，包括6月30号。

(7）within 这个词排除第一天而包括最后一天，它后面也可接of，after 或from等介词，在每种表述里，所述日期都不计算在内。

例6:This letter of guarantee is valid within 30 days from the date when the Contractor receives the advance payment under the contract till the goods have been endorsed, opened and checked, and received their passing reports.

参考译文：本保函从承包商收到合同预付款之日起直至所有货物均签署开箱验货合格报告后30天内有效。

(8）as of 意为“截止”，是一个注明日期的行话，as of 用来把一件事情定在一个时间而另一个时间承认这件事情，用在对当前到以后某个日期的趋势作预测。

例7：本公司自五月一日起将用新地址。

参考译文：Our company shall have a new address as of May 1.

例8: Termination of this Agreement shall cancel, as of the date the termination shall become effective, all orders that may not yet have been shipped.

参考译文：本协议终止时，于终止生效之日起，停止一切尚未装运的订货。

译文解析：例21把as of 译为“于……之日起”是不对的，原文的意思不是“从那个日期”，as of the date 的意思是在终止之日，即on the date of termination。

法律文书对时间翻译的准确性要求很高，有些与时间有关的词语意思比较清楚，如on, before, after, through, starting, ending, terminating, expiring等，译者在工作中应尽量使用这些词而不是那些容易引起歧义的词，或者在可能引起歧义的地方特别加以说明。
