Ci Yao Tong

(The Pricking Therapy for Lumbago of Various Channels)

足太阳脉令人腰痛，引项脊尻背如重状，刺其郄中太阳正经出血，春无见血。

When the Foot Taiyang Channel contracts disease, it will cause the patient to have lumbago, and the pain will make the patient to feel like something heavy is on his neck, spine, buttocks and back. When treating, it should prick the Weizhong point (Politeal Centre BL. 40) of the Foot Taiyang Channel until bleeding. If it is in spring the pricking must not cause bleeding.

少阳[“少阳”下脱“脉”字，下“阳明”“足少阴”亦脱“脉”字]令人腰痛，如以针刺其皮中[《圣济总录》引“皮”下无“中”字]，循循然不可以俯仰，不可以顾[《甲乙》“可以”下有“左右”二字]，刺少阳成骨之端出血，成骨在膝外廉之骨独起者[此句十一字疑为上文“成骨”之释语，传写误入正文]，夏无见血。

The pain of lumbago caused by the disease of Foot Shaoyang Channel is like the pricking of skin by the needle. If it becomes aggravated gradually, it will cause one unable to face up and down, nor can he look around. When treating, it should prick the starting point of the tibia until bleeding. If it is in summer, the pricking must not cause bleeding.

阳明令人腰痛，不可以顾，顾如有见者，善悲，刺阳明于骺前三瘠，上下和之出血，秋无见血。

The lumbago caused by the disease of Foot Yangming Channel is so painful that the patient can not look back, if he looks back, he seems to have seen something, and besides, the patient is often sorrow-stricken. When treating, prick the Zusanli point (Foot Three Li ST. 36) of the Foot Yangming Channel until bleeding to cause the combination of the upper and the lower energies. If it is in autumn, the pricking must not cause bleeding.

足少阴令人腰痛，痛引脊内廉[《太素》作“引脊内痛”]，刺少阴于内踝上二痢，春无见[《太素》“见”作“出”]血，出血太多，不可复也。

The lumbago caused by the Foot Shaoyin Channel draws the inner side of the spine to become painful. When treating, it should prick the Fuliu point (Repeating Slip KI. 7) of Shaoyin Channel twice. If it is in spring, the pricking must not cause bleeding: if the bleeding is excessive, the blood will become asthenic and will be hard to recover.

厥阴之脉，令人腰痛，腰中如张弓弩弦，刺厥阴之脉，在腨踵鱼腹之外，循之累累然，乃刺之，其病令人善[《素问识》云:“其病”以下十五字与前四经腰痛之例不同，恐是衍文]言，默默然不慧，刺之三痏。

The lumbago which is brought by the disease of Foot Jueyin Channel causes the pain so severe and tight like the string of a bow which is fully drawn. When treating, prick the co-latteral of Jueyin. One can seek by touching to locate the location which is like a string of pearls between the calf and the outer flank of the fish belly sticking out in the middle of the heel (the Ligou point LR.5) and make the pricking.
