帝曰:愿闻其所始也。歧伯日:昭乎哉问也!臣览《太始天元册》文，丹天之气，经于牛女戊分；黅天之气，经于心尾己分;苍天之气，经于危室柳鬼;素天之气，经于亢氐昴毕;玄天之气，经于张翼娄胃。所谓戊己分者，奎壁角轸，则天地之门户也。夫候之所始，道之所生，不可不通也。

I have read the ancient book of the《Primordial Universe》in which it was stated: 'In ancient times, people saw there was in the sky the red energy lying in between the two stars of Niu and Nu position and the Wu position of northwest; there was yellow energy lying in between the two stars of Xin and Wei position and the position of Ji of

southeast; there was green energy lying in between the two stars of Wei and Shi position and the two stars of Liu and Gui position; there was white energy lying in bet ween the two stars of Kang and Di position and the two stars of Mao and Bi position; and there was black energy lying in between the two stars of Zhang and Yi position and the two stars of Lou and Wei Position'. The so-called Wu position is where the two stars of Kui and Bi locate, and the Ji

position is where the two stars of Jiao and Zhen locate. The two stars of Kui and Bi locate in between the solar terms of Beginning of Autumn and Beginning of Winter; the two stars of Jiao and Zhen locate in between the solar terms of Beginning of Spring and Beginning of Summer. So, they are the gates of the heaven and earth, and they are also the beginning of the solar terms which is the starting point of Yin and Yang of heaven and earth, and one must not be ignorant of it."

帝日:善。论言天地者，万物之上下，左右者，阴阳之道路，未知其所谓也。岐伯曰:所谓上下者，岁上下见阴阳之所在也。左右者，诸上见厥阴，左少阴，右太阳;见少阴，左太阴，右厥阴;见太阴，左少阳，右少阴;见少阳，左阳明，右太阴;见阳明，左太阳，右少阳，见太阳，左厥阴，右阳明。所谓面北而命其位，言其见也。

Yellow Emperor said:"Good, It was stated in the 《Primordial Universe》: 'The heaven and earth are the upper and lower ranges for all things to rise and fall, and the left and right are the routes for Yin and Yang to ascend and descend'. But I do not understand its meaning."

Qibo said:"To rise means the Yin or Yang position of the six kinds of weather controlling the heaven above, to fall means the Yin or Yang position of the five elements' motion affecting the earth below. Left and right are the left or right positions of the controlling of the heaven. When the Jueyin appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be Shaoyin and the right will he Taiyang: when the Shaoyin appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be Taiyin and the right will be Jueyin; when the Taiyin appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be the Shaoyang and the right will be the Shaoyin; when the Shaoyang appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be the Yangming and the right will be the Taiyin: when the Yangming appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be the Taiyang and the right will be the Shaoyang; when the Taiyang appears on the position of controlling the heaven, the left will be the Jueyin and the right will be the Yangming. This is the case of the facing north to determine the position of Yin and Yang in indicating the various appearances of Yin and Yang in controlling the heaven."
