诊目痛[痛:《脉经》卷五第四作“病”]，赤脉从上下者，太阳病;从下上者，阳明病;从外走内者，少阳病。

"When inspecting the disease of the eye, if there is a vertical red channel descending in the eye, it is the disease belonging to the Foot Taiyang Channel; if there is a vertical red channel ascending in the eye, it is the disease belonging to the Yangming Channel; if there is a horizontal red channel running from the outer canthus to the inner canthus, it is the disease belonging to the Shaoyang Channel.

诊寒热，赤脉上下至瞳子，见一脉一岁死，见一脉半一岁半死，见二脉二岁死，见二脉半二岁半死，见三脉三岁死。

"When inspecting the disease of scrofula of cold and heat, and there is a vertical red channel penetrating through the pupil, if the red channel is one of them, the patient will die in a year, if the red channels are one and half of them, the patient will die in one and half years, if the red channels are two of them, the patient will die in two years, if the red channels are two and half of them, the patient will die in two and half years, if the red channels are three of them, the patient will die in three years.

诊龋齿痛，按其阳[阳:“阳”下脱“明”字应据《甲乙》卷十二第六补]之[之:《脉经》卷五第四“之”下有“脉”字]来，有过者独[独:孙鼎宜日:“独”当作“为”]热，在左左热，在右右热，在上上热，在下下热。

"When inspecting the dental caries which is painful, press the coming route of the hand and foot Yangming Channels, if the channel is hyperactive, it shows there is heat, when the left side is hyperactive, the heat is on the left, when the right side is hyperactive, the heat is on the right, when the upper part is hyperactive, the heat is in the upper part, when the lower part is hyperactive, the heat is in the lower part.

诊血脉者，多赤多热，多青多痛，多黑为久痹，多赤、多黑、多青皆见者，寒热。

"When inspecting the collaterals, if the red colour is plenty, it shows the patient has plenty of heat, if the green colour is plenty, it shows the patient has plenty of pains, if the black colour is plenty, it shows the patient has protracted bi-syndrome, if the red, black and green colours appear to be plenty simultaneously, it is the disease of cold and heat.

身痛而[而:《病沅》卷十二并作“面”]色微黄，齿垢黄，爪甲上黄，黄疸也，安卧，小便黄赤，脉小而涩者，不嗜食。

"When the patient is painful in the body, slightly yellow of the complexion, his tartus is yellow and his nails are yellow, it is the disease of jaundice. When the patient is fond of sleeping, has deep-coloured urine and the small and choppy pulse condition, the patient will have the syndrome of loss of appetite.

人病，其寸口之脉，与人迎之脉小大等及其浮沉等者，病难已也。

"When the patient's Cunkou pulse and the Renying pulse are having the same power in pulsating and their extends of floating and sinking are similar, the disease can hardly be cured.

女子手少阴脉动甚者，妊子。

"When inspecting a woman, if her Hand Shaoyin Channel of Heart is pulsating severely, it shows she is pregnant.

婴儿病，其头毛皆逆上者，必死。耳间青脉起者，掣痛[痛:《甲乙》卷十二第十一“痛”上有“腹”字]。大便赤瓣[赤瓣:《脉经》卷九第九作“赤青瓣”]，飧泄，脉小[脉者:《甲乙》卷十二第一“小”作“大”者，手足寒，难已;飧泄，脉少，手足温，泄易已。

"When an infant has disease with his hair standing upward, he will die. If he has green channel being bulge around the ear, it shows he has convulsion of the muscle and the abdominal pain. When the green clottings are seen in the stool, it shows he has indigestion, if his pulse condition is gigantic and he has cold hands and feet, he can hardly be cured, if the pa-tient has indigestion and small pulse condition but his hands and feet are warm, the disease of diarrhea can easily be cured.

四时之变，寒暑之胜，重阴必阳，重阳必阴，故阴主寒，阳主热，故寒甚则热，热甚则寒，故日:寒生热，热生寒，此阴阳之变也。故日:冬伤于寒，春生瘅热[瘅热:《素问・阴阳应象大论》作“温病”];春伤于风，夏生后泄肠潞;夏伤于暑，秋生痿疟;秋伤于湿，冬生咳嗽。是谓四时之序也。

"The weather changes of the four seasons are the alternations of cold and heat; when the Yin is overabundant, it will turn into Yang, when the Yang is overabundant, it will turn into Yin; as Yin dominates the cold and Yang dominates the heat, so, when the cold is excessive it will turn into heat when the heat is excessive, it will turn into cold. Thus, the extreme cold can produce heat and the extreme heat can produce cold, and this is the principle of the relative change of Yin and Yang. Therefore, when one is injured by cold in winter, he will have seasonal febrile disease in spring. When one is injured by wind in spring, he will have diarrhea in summer. When one is injured by summer-heat in summer, he will have malaria in autumn. When one is injured by wetness in autumn, he will cough in winter. This is the law of the diseases caused by the weather changes of the four seasons."
