刺节真邪/Ci Jie Zhen Xie
(The Criterions of Pricking and the Difference Between Healthy Energy and the Evil Energy)
黄帝向于岐伯日:余闻刺有五节奈何?岐伯日:固有五节:一日振埃,二日发蒙,三日去爪[爪:“爪”疑当作“水”],四日彻[彻:张注本作“撤”]衣,五日解惑。黄帝日:夫子言五节,余未知其意。岐伯日:振埃者,刺外经,去阳病也。发蒙者,刺府输,去府病也。去爪者,刺关节肢[肢:《太素》卷二十二《五节刺》作“之支”二字]络也。彻衣者,尽刺诸阳之奇输也。解惑者,尽知调阴阳,补泻有余不足,相倾移也。
Yellow Emperor asked Qibo and said: "I am told there are five criterions in pricking, what are they?" Qibo said:"No doubt, there are five criterions. They are the Zhen-ai (shake off the dust), Fameng (enlighten the ignorance), Qushui (remove the edema), Cheyi (take off the clothes) and Jiehuo (relieve perplexion)." Yellow Emperor said: "I don't understand the meaning of the five criterions you said." Qibo said:"The Zhen-ai pricking therapy is to prick the acupoints on the four extremities and the skin to treat the disease of Yang; the Fameng pricking therapy is to prick the shu-points of the six hollow organ to treat the diseases of the six organs; the Qushui pricking therapy is to prick the collateral-branches of the joints; the Cheyi pricking therapy is to prick the large collaterals of the six hollow organs; the Jiehuo pricking therapy is to invigorate the insufficiency and purge the surplus after understanding thoroughly the functions of adjusting the Yin and Yang and pricks flexibly and reversely in extraordinary conditions."
黄帝日刺节言振埃,夫子乃言刺外经,去阳病,余不知其所谓也,愿卒闻之。岐伯曰:振埃者,阳气大逆,上[上:《太素》卷二十二《五节刺》无此字]满于胸中,愤[愤:《太素》卷二十二《五节刺》作“烦”]瞋肩息,大气逆上,喘喝坐伏,病恶埃烟,饱不得息,请言振埃,尚疾于振埃。黄帝曰:善。取之何如?岐伯曰:取之天容。黄帝日:其咳上气,穷诎胸痛者,取之奈何?岐伯日:取之廉泉。黄帝日:取之有数乎?岐伯日:取天容者,无过一里,取廉泉者,血变而止。帝日:善哉。
Yellow Emperor said:"The Zhen-ai pricking therapy you said is to prick the external channels for treating the diseases of Yang, I do not know what you are indicating, I hope you can tell me in details." Qibo said:"The Zhen-ai pricking therapy is to treat the severe adverseness of the Yang energy, apply the therapy when the patient has fullness and distention in the chest, shrugging of the shoulders with rapid respiration, when his breath in the chest is reversing up, coughs and perspires rapidly, feels uneasy when sitting or prostrating, has dyspnea like his throat is being choked. This therapy is called Zhen-ai to analogize the curitive efficacy of pricking is as quick as shaking off the dust. "Yellow Emperor said:"Good. But which acupoint should be pricked?" Qibo said: "It should prick the Tianrong point." Yellow Emperor asked: "If the patient has cough and dyspnea caused by the adverse rising of lung energy, obstruction of the breath and pain in the chest, which acupoint should be pricked?" Qibo said: "It should prick the Lianquan point." Yellow Emperor asked: "Is there any rule when pricking the two acupoints?" Qibo said:"When pricking the Tianrong point, the insertion must not exceed one inch; when pricking the Lianquan point, the pricking should be ceased when the complexion of the patient has changed." Yellow Emperor said:"Good."
黄帝日:刺节言发蒙,余不得其意。夫发蒙者,耳无所闻,目无所见。夫子乃言刺腑输,去腑病,何输使然?愿闻其故。岐伯日:妙乎哉问也!此刺之大[大:《太素》卷二十三《五节刺》无此字]约,针之极也,神明之类也,口说书卷,犹不能及也,请言发蒙耳,尚疾于发蒙也。黄帝日:善。愿卒闻之之。岐伯日:刺此者,必于日中,刺其听官,中其眸子,声闻于耳[耳《甲乙》卷十二第五作“外”],此其输也。黄帝日:善。何谓声闻于耳?岐伯曰:刺邪[刺邪:《甲乙》卷十二第五作“已刺”]以手坚按其两鼻窍而[而:《甲乙》卷十二第五作“令”]疾偃,其声必应于针也。黄帝日:善。此所谓弗见为之,而无目视,见而取之,神明相得者也。

It is the essentials in pricking, and the summit of the skill of acupuncture which belongs to the divinity kind, it can not be expressed even by writing down after oral relating. The name of Fameng is analogizing its treating efficacy being faster than the enlightening of the ignorance." Yellow Emperor said: " Good. I hope you explain it in details." Qibo said:"When treating the disease of which one can not hear by ears and can not see by eyes, the Tinggong point should be pricked at noon, the needling response will affect the pupil straightly and cause the ear to hear sounds. This is the main shu-point for treating the disease." Yellow Emperor said: "Good. But what causes the ear to hear sounds?" Qibo said:"When the needle has inserted, ask the patient to press the two nostrils tightly and lie on his back quickly, then, there must be sounds responding the pricking." Yellow Emperor said:"Good. This is the so-called seeing not what has done, although nothing is seen by the eyes, yet operating the needling like seeing the coming and going of the channel. When the physician has every thing under perfect control like this, he has really attained the extent of divinity."
