卫气行/Wei Qi Xing

(Then Circulation of Wei-energy)

黄帝问于岐伯曰:愿闻卫气之行，出入之合，何如?岐伯日:岁有十二月，日有十二辰，子午为经，卯酉为纬。天周[天周:《甲乙》卷一第九作“周天”]二十八宿，而一面七星，四七二十八星，房昴为纬，虚张为经。是故房至毕为阳，昴至心为阴，阳主昼，阴主夜。故卫气之行，一日一夜五十周于身，昼日行于阳二十五周，夜行于阴二十五周，周于五脏。

Yellow Emperor asked Qibo and sad:"I hope to know the circulation of the Wei-energy and its coming in and going out in the Yin and Yang channels. What are their conditions?" Qibo said:"There are twelve months in a year and there are twelve double-hour in a day. The Zi and Wu are in the south and north respectevely, their connecting line is the vertical longtitude; the Mao and You is in the east and the west respectively, their connecting line is the horizontal latitude. Then celetial bodies go in circulation among the twenty eight stars, and in each orientation, there are seven stars, in the four orientations, there are altogether twenty eight stars. From the Fang star in the east to the Mao star in the west is the latitude, from the Xu star in the north to the Zhang star in the south is the longtitude. Thus, from the Fang star to the Bi star is Yang, from the Mao star to the Xin star is Yin, the Yang dominates the day and the Yin dominates the night, so, the circulations of the Wei-energy in the body are fifty cycles in a day and night. In day time, it circulates in the Yang for twenty five cycles, and in night time, it circulates among the internal organs for twenty five cycles.

是故平旦阴[阴:《太素》卷十二《卫五十周》“阴”下并有“气”字]尽，阳气出于目，目张则气上行于头，循项下足太阳，循背下至小指之端。其散者，别于目锐眦，下手太阳，下至手小指之间外侧。其散者，别于目锐眦，下足少阳，注小指次指之间。以上循手少阳之分，侧下至小指之间。别者以上至耳前，合于颔脉，注足阳明，以下行至跗上，入五指之间。其散者，从耳下下手阳明，入大指[《灵枢约注》卷上《经络第二》“大指”当作“次指”]之间。入掌中。其至于足也，入足心，出内踝下，行阴分，复合于目，故为一周。

So, by the time of the dawn when the Yin energy is exhausted, the Yang energy will be floating out from the eyes, when the eyes are open, the energy will ascend to the head, then, descends along the neck to reach the Foot Taiyang channel, then descends along the back to reach the Zhiyin point on the tip of the small toe. Its branch branches out from the outer canthus, descends along the Hand Taiyang Channel to reach the Shaoze point on the tip of the outer flank of the small finger. Another branch branches out from the outer canthus, descends along the Foot Shaoyin Channel to reach the Qiaoyin point between the small toe and the fourth toe. From the Foot Shaoyang Channel, it enters into the Hand Shaoyang Channel to reach the Guanzhong point on the tip of the small finger. Another branch ascends to reach the front of the ear, assembles in the mandible pulse, then, pours into the Foot Yangming Channel, descends to the dorsum of foot and reaches the tip of the middle toe. Another branch descends along the Hand Yangming Channel below the ear to reach the Shangyang point on the tip of the fore finger, then its energy enters into the palm. When the Wei-energy reaches the foot, it enters into the centre of the sole, comes out from the inner ankle, ascends to the Yin portion, then, it ascends to converge with other branch on the inner canthus of the eye. This is the circulative cycle of the Wei-energy.

是故日行一舍，人气行[人气行:《甲乙》卷一第九“行”下并有“于身”二字]一周与十分身之八;日行二舍，人气行三周于身[三周于身:《甲乙》卷一第九作“于身三周”]与十分身之六;日行三舍，人气行于身五周与十分身之四;日行四舍，人气行于身七周与十分身之二;日行五舍，人气行于身九周;日行六舍，人气行于身十周与十分身之八;日行七舍，人气行于身十二周在身与十分身之六;日行十四舍，人气二十五周于身有奇分与十分身之二，阳尽于阴，阴受气矣。其始入于阴，常从足少阴注于肾，肾注于心，心注于肺，肺注于肝，肝注于脾，脾复注于肾为周。是故夜行一舍，人气行于阴脏一周与十分脏之八，亦如阳行之二十五周，而复合于目。阴阳一日一夜，合有奇分十分身之四[四:黄校本作“二”]，与十分藏之二，是故人之所以卧起之时有早晏者，奇分不尽故也。

Thus, when the sun travels the distance of one star (From a star to the next star), the Wei-energy will circulate 1 8/10 cycle in the body, when the sun travels the distance of two stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 3 6/10 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of three stars the Wei-energy will circulate 5 4/10 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of four stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 7 2/10 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of five stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 9 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of six stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 10 8/10 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of seven stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 12 6/10 cycles in the body, when the sun travels the distance of fourteen stars, the Wei-energy will circulate 25 2/10 cycles in the body, when the Wei-energy finishes its course of Yang portion in day time, the Yin portion in night time will undertake the energy. When the Wei-energy begins to pour into the Yin portion, commonly it starts from the Foot Shaoyin Channel and pours into the kidney, then, it pours from the kidney to the heart, then it pours from the heat to the lung, then, it pours from the lung to the liver, then, it pours from the liver to the spleen, and then,it pours from the spleen to the kidney again to become one cycle. So, when the sun travels the distance of one star in night time. the Wei-energy circulates 1 8/10 cycles in the Yin viscera of the body, it circulates twenty five cycles in the Yin portion like that in the day time, and finally, they combine on the inner canthus of the eye. In the Yin portion and the Yang portion circulations in a day and night there are the remainder of 2/10 in the body and 2/10 in the Yin viscera. As the early or late of going to sleep and getting up of men are different, so, there are the remainder in calculation."
