黄帝问于伯高日:愿闻人之肢节，以应天地奈何?伯高答日:天圆地方，人头圆足方以应之。天有日月，人有两[两:《素问・四季调神大论》王注引《灵枢经》作“眼”]目。地有九州[地有九州:《五行大义》巻五第二十三作“天有九星”]，人有九窍。天有风雨，人有喜怒。天有雷电，人有音声。天有四时，人有四肢。天有五音，人有五藏。天有六律，人有六腑。天有冬夏，人有寒热。天有十日，人有手十指。辰有十二，人有足十指、茎、垂以应之;女子不足二节，以抱人形。天有阴阳，人有夫妻。岁有三百六十五日，人有三百六十节。[(六十:《太素》卷五“十”下有“五”字]地有高山，人有肩膝。地有深谷，人有腋腘。地有十二经水，人有十二经脉。地有泉脉[泉脉:《太素》卷五作“云气”]，人有卫气。地有草契，人有毫毛。天有昼夜，人有卧起。天有列星，人有牙齿。地有小山，人有小节。地有山石，人有高骨。地有林木，人有募筋。地有聚邑，人有朋肉。岁有十二月，人有十二节。地有四[四:《甲乙》卷五无此字]时不生草，人有无子。此人与天地相应者也。

Yellow Emperor said to Bogao: "I hope to hear about the correpondance of human extremities and joints with the heaven and earth." Bogao said:"The heaven is round and the earth is square, the head of a man is round and his foot is square, so, heaven and earth correspond with man. In heaven, there are the sun and moon, in man, there are the eyes; in heaven, there are the nine stars, in man, there are the nine orifices; in heaven, there are wind and rain, in man, there are overjoy and anger; in heaven, there are thunder and lightning, in man, there is voice; in heaven, there are the four seasons, in man, there are the four extremities; in heaven, there are the five tones, in man, there are the five solid organs; in heaven, there are the six standards for setting the tone, in man, there are the six hollow organs; in heaven, there are the ten celetial stems (decimal cycles), in man, there are the ten fingers; in heaven, there are the twelve earthen branches (duodecimal cycles) in man, there are ten toes, penis and the testicles which are corresponding to the heaven, in woman, she has no penis and testicles, but she can conceive; in heaven, there are Yin and Yang, in man there are husband and wife; in a year, there are three hundred and sixty five days, in human body, there are three hundred and sixty five acupoints; on earth, there are the high mountains, in human body, there are the shoulders and knees; on earth, there are deep valleys, in human body, there are the armpits and poplitea; on carth, there are twelve large rivers, in human body, there are twelve main channels; on earth, there is cloud, in human body, there is the Wei-energy; on earth, there are grasses overgrown, in human body, there are fine hairs growing; in heaven, there are day and night, in man there are sleep and rise; in heaven, there are the stars, in man, there are the teeth; on earth, there are the small hills, in man, there are the small bone joints; on earth, there are the rocks, in human body, there are the eminent head of bones (like cheeks, shoulders, knees and ankles); on earth, there are woods, in human body, there are the aponeurosis; on earth, there are cities throng with people, in human body, there are the protruding muscles; in a year, there are twelve months, in human body, there are twelve large joints in the four extremities; on earth, sometimes the grass does not grow, in man, one may have no offspring in his whole life. These are the conditions of a man corresponding to the heaven and earth."
