Wu Luan
(The Five Disturbances)
Yellow Emperor asked:"The twelve channels of a man belong to the five elements respectively and they are also related to the four seasons, what are the conditions of missing to become disorderly and that of hits to become orderly?" Qibo said: "The creation and the subjugation of the five elements are having a regular sequence, and there are changes in the four seasons, it will be normal and orderly when they are agreeable to each other, and will be abnormal and disorderly when they reverse against each other."
Yellow Emperor asked: "What is the meaning of agreeable to each other?" Qibo answered: "The twelve channels of human body correspond to the twelve months of the year, the twelve months are divided into four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter of which the weathers are different. If the interior and the exterior of the Ying energy and the Wei energy are agreeable to each other, the superficies and interior of Yin and Yang tally with each other, and there is no disturbance in the ascent and descent of the lucid and turbid energies, the functions of the viscera, and the channels and the weathers of the four seasons will be harmonious and the human body will be eased and comfortable."
Yellow Emperor asked:"What is the meaning of adverse and becoming disorderly?" Qibo said:"The lucid energy belongs to Yang, but it situates, on the contrary, on the position of Yin, the turbid energy belongs to Yin, but it situates, on the contrary, in the position of Yang: the Ying energy runs agreeably in the Yang portion, but the Wei energy runs adversely in the Yin portion, and the lucid energy and the turbid energy are interfering each other to disturb the chest. In this case, it is the adverse condition, and it is called the great gloominess. When the evil energy is in the heart to cause disturbance, it will cause one to become gloomy, silient and speachless, and bending his head motionlessly; when the evil energy is in the lung to cause disturbance, the patient will face up and down restlessly, respires with sound and presses his chest while respiring; when the evil energy is in the intestine and stomach to cause disturbance, cholera morbus will occur: when the disturbing energy is in the arm and leg, it will cause the jue-syndrome of the extremities; when the disturbing energy is in the head, it will cause one to have Jueni, his head will be painful and will often fall down due to dizziness."
