(Measurement of the Bone)

黄帝问于伯高口:脉度言经脉之长短，何以立之?伯高日:先度其骨节之大小广狭长短，而脉度定矣。

Yellow Emperor saked Bogao and said: "How to determine the length of the channels of the three Yins and the three Yangs?" Bogao answered:"One must measure the size, width and the length of the bones first, then can the lengths of the channel be determined."

黄帝曰:愿闻众人之度，人长七尺五寸者，其骨节之大小长短各几何?伯高日:头之大骨围二尺六寸，胸围四尺五寸，腰围四尺二寸。髪所复者颅至项尺二寸;髪以下至颐长一尺，君子终折。

Yellow Emperor said: "I hope to know the bone size of a man in ordinary stature. Since a man in normal stature is seven and half feet tall, what about the size and length of his bone?" Bogao said:"The circumference of the skull when measuring on the level of the peaks of the ears is two feet and six inches, the circumference of the chest measuring on the level of the nipples is four feet and five inches, the circumference of the loin measuring on the level of the navel is four feet and two inches, the length from the frontal hairline to the location of neck covered by the hair is one foot and two inches, the length from the frontal hairline to the bottom of the cheek is one foot, and a wise and reasonable person still has to infer and check the data with other factors.

结喉以下至缺盆中长四寸，缺盆以下至髑骺长九寸，过则肺大，不满则肺小。(骨曷)(骨亏)以下至天枢长八寸，过则胃大，不及则胃小。天枢以下至横骨长六寸半，过则回肠广长，不满则狭短。横骨长六寸半，横骨上廉以下至内辅之上廉长一尺八寸，内辅之上廉以下至下廉长三寸半，内辅下廉下至内踝长一尺三寸，内踝以下至地长三寸，膝腘以下至跗属长一尺六寸，跗属以下至地长三寸，故骨围大则太过，小则不及。

"The length from the Adam's apple to the middle point between the two Quepen points is four inches. The length from the Quepen point to the sternal xiphoid process is nine inches, when it is more than nine inches, the lung is comparatively larger than the ordinary ones, when it is less than nine inches; the lung is comparatively smaller than the ordinary ones. The length from the sternal xiphoid process to the Tianshu point (on the level of the navel) is eight inches, when it is more than eight inches, the stomach is comparatively larger than the ordinary ones, when it is less than eight inches, the stomach is comparatively smaller than the ordinary ones. The length from the Tianshu point to the pubic bone is six and half inches, when it is more than six and half inches, the large intestine is large and long, when it is less than six and half inches, the large intestine is shorter. The length of the pubic bone is six and half inches, the length from the pubic bone to the bone process beside the knee is one foot and eight inches, the length from below the upper edge of the bone process beside the knee to its lower edge is three and half inches. The length from the lower edge of the bone process beside the knee to the inner ankle is one foot and three inches, the length from the inner ankle to the ground is three inches, the length from the popliteal to the level of the ankle is one foot and six inches, and the length from the ankle to the ground is three inches. So, when the circumference of the bone is long, the size of the bone is large, when the circumference of the bone is short, the size of the bone is small.
