2. LOCALIZATION TOOLS
The resource editor traditionally used for translating Mac OS applications is called ResEdit. ResEdit is a powerful resource editor from Apple Computer. Refer to the Resource Editors section on page 87 for more information.
Other development and localization tools for Mac OS applications include Apple's MPW, Metrowerks CodeWarrior, Resorcerer, Icepick, ViewEdit, AppleGlot, and PowerGlot.
• MPW (Macintosh Programmer's Workshop) is a text-based Ma cOS resource compiler.
• Metrowerks CodeWarrior is a development tool that contains an editor, compiler, linker, and debugger. CodeWarrior is used mostly by developers when creating cross-platform products.
• Resorcerer is comparable to ResEdit, but is often considered faster and easier to use. Refer to the Resource Editors section on page 87 for more information.
• Icepick and ViewEdit are small tools that are only used to translate coded MacApp VIEW resources.
• AppleGlot is a localization utility that was developed by Apple Computer. It contains advanced functions for automatically updating and translating extracted resource files. Refer to the AppleGlot section on page 389 for more information.
• PowerGlot is a commercially available resource translation tool that extracts, sorts, and provides a very comprehensive overview of all translatable text contained in an application. Refer to the PowerGlot section on page 391 for more information.
