（三）省略语气助词

汉语中有许多语气助词，如“的”、“吧”、“呢”、“啊”、“呀”、“嘛”、“吗”、“啦”、“了”、“罢了”等，而英语中没有语气助词，因此汉译英时可以省去这些语气助词。例如：

1）不要认真吗！我不过开开玩笑罢了。

Don't take it seriously . I'm just making fun of you. （省略“吗”，“罢了”）

2）这个小孩随身带着刀子啦，剪子啦，以及诸如此类的东西，在口袋里丁铃当郎地直响。

The little hoy had brought with him knife，scissors and what not , tinkling in his pocket.(省、略“啦”）

3）我呢，从ー开始就不赞成。

As for me, I don't agree from the very beginning. (省略“呢”）

4）那双眼啊，像海水一样的颜色，愉快，毫不沮丧。

The eyes were the same colour as the sea , cheerful and undefeated. (省略“啊”）
