在一些英语简单句中，部分词语隐含着某种假设，这一点通过谓语动词的虚拟语气, 加上一定的背景知识就能判断出来。这种经过压缩的成分亦可通过分译和扩展来再现。如：

英国假如脱离欧盟，将会蒙受严重的经济损失。

例8 Kissinger wrote in his syndicated column that an unchecked Saddam would be

另外，有些英语词组或短语因其特殊的表达方式，在译成汉语时往往也需要将其从原句中拆离出来，然后增词以完善其结构，才能把原义完整、通顺地表达出来。如：

把他（的名字）添上，名单就完备了。

(比较:他的增加使名单完整了。）

例10 However, the veiy size of the country and its own traditions present limitations

on the speed with which such work will be completed.
