科技文章在讲述什么事情时，常常是强调做什么事和怎么做而不介意谁去做。这是科技英语中被动语态使用得特别多的一个主要原因。这类被动句译成汉语时，主语往往转换为宾语，又无需补出执行者，这样一来，被动句便译成了无主句。例如：

1) A new oil field has been opened up.

已经开发了一座新油田。

2) More new factories will be built in the near future.

不久将修建更多的新工厂。

3) The resistance can be determined provided that the voltage and current are known.

只要知道电压和电流，就能够确定电阻。

4) The students are taught English in a new way.

用新方法教学生们英语。

5) A laser is used to produce very powerful beams of light.

用激光器来产生极强的光束。

6) Much greater magnification can be obtained with the clectron microscope.

使用电子显微镜能获得大得多的放大倍数。
