1. 汉语里的句子，有时前一句话提到一件事，后面一句话接着谈这件事，两句话又都不长，英译时即可并句。例如：

1）汽水中就有碳酸。我们对碳酸的这种形式很熟悉。

Carbonic acid is particularly familiar to us in the form of soda water.

2）思想动向问题，我们应当抓住。这里当作第一个问题提出来。

We should keep tabs on ideological trends, which I am taking up here as the first question.

3）有一种电流表叫做动铁式电流表，如图25所示。这种电流表用于测量电流强度。

One kind of ammeter, called a moving-iron ammeter, used to measure the strength of electric currents is shown in fig.25.

4）我遇到了一个问题。当我就要出席会议时，这个问题越发明显了。

I had a problem, which became clearly obvious just as I was to appear at the meeting.

5）他和王宁谈过话。王宁向他担保，凡是能够做到的都将竭尽全力去做。

He had talked to Wang Ning, who assured him that everything that could be done would be done.

6）所有线圈都有电感。电感是阻止所通过的电流发生变化的特性。

All coils have inductive which is the property of opposing any change of current flowing through it.

7）另一个例子是助听器。助听器可以做得非常小，以致可变成眼镜架的一部分。

Another example is the hearing aid, which can be made so small that it can become part of the frame of a pair of spectacles.

8）铝比钢的强度小得多。但如果把它和少量的铜、锰、镁等金属熔成合金，再经过热处理，就能使其达到钢的强度。

Aluminium, though much less strong than steel, can be given a strength approaching that of steel when it is alloyed with small quantities of copper , manganese and magnesium, and subjected to heat treatment processes.

9）制造过程可以分为单件生产和大量生产。单件生产就是生产少量的零件。大量生产就是生产大量相同的零件。

Manufacturing processes may be classified as unit production with small quantities being made and mass production with large numbers of identical parts being produced.

2. 如果两个句子之间联系十分紧密，已经构成了主辅关系，英译时即可并成一个句子。

1）他竟会对我这样当面说慌！真是没有想到！

It never crossed my mind that she should have told me a bare-faced lie.

2）改革价格体系关系国民经济全局，涉及千家万户。一定要采取十分慎重的态度，有计划、有步骤地进行。

As the price system reforms affected every house-hold and the national economy, they must be carried out extremely prudently in a planned and systematic way.

3）年满十八岁的公民，都有选举权和被选举权。依照法律被剥夺选举权和被选举权的人除外。

All citizens who have reached the age of eighteen have the right to vote and to stand for election, with the exception of persons deprived of these rights by law.

4）为了把薄的厚的金属板焊接在一起，通常采用不同的方法。这就是我们熟悉的点焊。

A different method is usually employed for welding sheets or plates of metal together, which is known as spot welding.

5）燃料燃烧时所需要的空气，用空气喷射器或风机经炉篦吹入。进去的空气量，正好绰绰有余地供给燃料完全燃烧。

The air which is needed by the fuel for combustion is blown across the firegrate by air jets or fans, making the amount of air which is allowed to enter just more than sufficient for the complete combustion of the fuel.

6）一个结构物受到的荷载可以分为静载和活载两种。静载包括该结构物各部分的重量。活载是由于人，可移动的设备等等的重量所造成的。

The loads a structure is subjected to are divided into dead loads, which include the weights of all the parts of the structure, and live loads, which are due to the weights of people, movable equipment, etc.
