Speech by Ambassador Mme Deng Ying at the opening ceremony of Shakespeare Festival

　　非常高兴应邀出席“莎士比亚艺术节”开幕式。我谨代表中国驻丹麦使馆对各位嘉宾的到来表示热烈欢迎，对艺术节组委会、上海京剧院为此次演出所做大量工作表示衷心感谢，对“莎士比亚艺术节”成功举办十周年表示热烈祝贺！

Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen,

Good Evening! 

I am very glad to attend this Opening Ceremony of the Shakespeare Festival 2018. First, on behalf of Chinese Embassy in Denmark, I'd like to extend my warmest welcome to you all, and convey my appreciation to the organizing committee of this festival and Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company who have spared no effort to make today's performance possible. I would also like to give my warm congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the Shakespeare Festival. 

Ladies and Gentlemen,

　　艺术无国界。正如中国国家主席习近平2014年在访问联合国教科文组织时所强调，文明因交流而多彩，文明因互鉴而丰富。哈姆雷特的故事源自丹麦，复活于莎翁的神来之笔，是流传最为广泛、演绎版本最多的西方戏剧之一，受到各国人民喜爱。“莎士比亚艺术节”正是围绕莎士比亚这一主题，为各国艺术的交流互鉴搭建了宝贵平台，体现了开放与包容的理念——这种精神正是当前我们应该共同倡导和践行的。

　　朋友们，

　　今天，上海京剧院带来的京剧《哈姆雷特》将作为艺术节的首场演出登上克隆堡舞台。这是一场令人期待的艺术盛宴。我想主要有以下几个原因：

Art has no boundaries. Chinese president Xi Jinping said during his visit to the UNESCO headquarters in 2014 that civilizations have become richer and more colorful with exchanges and mutual learning. The story of Hamlet originated in Denmark, revived and put on stage by William Shakespeare. It is one of the most widely circulated and well-received with various renditions in the history of drama. Centered by the theme of Shakespeare, this festival serves as a platform for the exchanges and interactions among artists of different countries. This practice embodies openness and inclusiveness, which is the very guiding line we are advocating and following. 

Dear Friends, the Peking opera Hamlet you will see tonight is presented by Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company as the opening performance of the festival. I believe it will be an exciting art feast for the audience for the following reasons:
