黄帝曰:辛走气，多食之，令人洞心，何也?少俞日:辛人于胃，其气走于上焦，上焦者，受气而营诸阳者也，姜韭之气熏之[熏之:《千金》卷二十六第一并作“熏至营卫”]，营卫之气[营卫之气:《甲乙》卷六第九并无“之气”二字，“营卫”二字连下读]不时受之，久留心下，故洞心[洞心:《千金》卷二十六第一作“愠愠痛也”]。辛与气俱行，故辛入而与汗俱出。

Yellow Emperor asked:"The acrid taste goes to the energy, when one takes the acrid taste excessively, he will feel like the fumigation of smoke to the heart, and why is it?" Shaoyu said: "When the acrid taste enters into the stomach, its energy ascends to the upper warmer, as the upper warmer has the function of receiving the refined energy of the food and drink for circulating the Yang energy to the whole body, when the energies of ginger and Chinese chives fumigate the ying and wei energies, they are often stimulated by the acridness, when the acridness retains long in the stomach, one will have the feeling of the fumigation of the heart. The acridness goes to the Wei energy and it travels along with the Wei energy, thus, when the acrid taste enters into the stomach, it will be sent forth along with the sweat."

黄帝曰:苦走骨，多食之，令人变呕，何也?少俞日:苦入于胃，五谷之气，皆不能胜苦，苦入下脘，三焦之道皆闭而不通，故变呕。齿者，骨之所终也，故苦入而走骨，故入而复出，知其走骨也。

Yellow Emperor asked:"The bitter taste goes to the bone, when one takes excessive bitter taste, the colour of his teeth will be changed, and what is the reason?" Shaoyu said:"When the bitter taste enters into the stomach, all energies of the five cereals in the stomach can not withstand the bitter taste. When the bitter taste enters into the lower part of the gastric cavity, the passageway of the triple warmer will be obstrucated and the colour of the teeth will be changed. The teeth is the terminal of the bone, so, when the bitter taste enters into the stomach, it goes to the bone first, then, it comes out from the teeth causing the teeth turn into black and yellow. It is from the appearance, people know that the bitter taste goes to the bone."

黄帝日:甘走肉，多食之，令人悗心，何也?少俞日:甘入于胃，其气弱小，不能上至于上焦，而与谷留于胃中者，令人柔润者也，胃柔则缓，缓则虫动，虫动则令人悗心。其气外通于肉，故甘走肉。

Yellow Emperor asked:"The sweet taste goes to the muscle, when one takes the sweet taste excessively, he will have the feeling of oppression of the heart, and why is it?" Shaoyu said: "When the sweet enters into the stomach, as its energy is rather weak, it can not ascend to the upper warmer but can only retain in the stomach with the cereals. The sweetness can soften and moisten the stomach, when the stomach energy is soft, the operation of its energy will be loose and slow which will cause the wriggle of parasites in the stomach and the intestine, and the wriggle of parasites causes one to feel oppression of the heart; besides, the sweet taste communicates with the muscle outside, so, there is the version of 'sweet taste goes-to the muscle'."
