热病/Re Bing
(Febrile Disease)
In hemiplegia, when the patient is painful in the body but can talk as usual, and his consciousness is normal, the disease is caused by the evil which is on the site where the skin and the muscle joined. When treating, prick with the large needle. If the disease belongs to the deficient kind, apply the invigorating therapy, if the disease is of having a surplus, apply the the purging therapy, and the disease can be recovered. In paralysis, when the patient is not very painful but his extremities are loose and fail to withdraw, his consciousness is disorderly but the case is not severe, he talks in a low voice but his words can be understood by others, the disease has the possibility of being cured; when the case is severe and the patient can not talk, the disease can hardly be cured. When the disease initiates from Yang and then penetrates into Yin, the Yang channel (superficies) should be pricked first, and then, prick the Yin channel. The shallow needling should be applied.
When the febrile disease has lasted for three days and the Cunkou pulse is calm but the Renying pulse is irritable, select and prick the acupoints from the fifty nine points for treating the febrile disease of the various Yang channels to purge the heat-evil of the superficies and induce the sweat, besides, the pricking for enriching the Yin channel to invigorate the deficiency of the three Yin channels should be applied. To the patient whose body is very hot, but on the contrary, the Yin and the Yang pulses are calm, the pricking must not be applied; when the disease can still be treated by pricking, it should prick immediately, through the pricking, cven if the evil is not let out through sweating it can be purged by diarthea. As to the diseases which can not be treated by pricking, they are the fatal diseases.
When the febrile disease has lasted for seven or eight days, the patient's Cunkou pulse is stirring and he has rapid respiration and dizziness, it should prick immediately to cause spontaneous perspiration, prick mainly the acupoints between the fingers with shallow needling.
When the febrile disease has lasted for seven or eight days, if the pulse condition is tiny, the patient has hematuria and dryness in the mouth, he will die after one and half days; when the intermittent pulse condition occurs, the patient will die after one day. In febrile disease, when the sweat is induced but the pulse condition is still overabundant and the patient has dyspnea and fever, it must not be pricked. when the rapid respiration is severe, the patient will die.
When the febrile disease has lasted for seven or eight days, but the pulse condition is not irritable, or the pulse condition is irritable but not rapid, if the sweat is seen within three days the disease can be recovered; if there is no sweat within three days, the patient will die in the fourth day. To the patient with no sweat, pricking is no more necessary.
In febrile disease, when the patient feels painful in the skin, the nostrils are obstructed like being stuffed by something, it should prick the skin by shallow needling with the sharp-tip needle, select and prick the acupoints among the fifty nine points for treating the febrile disease, if the nose of the patient is swelling, prick the Feishu (Lung-shu) point with shallow needling. The Xinshu (Heart-shu) point must not be pricked as the heart belongs to the fire and fire subjugates metal.
When at the beginning of the febrile disease, the skin appears to be coarse and choppy, the patient has dysphoria and restlessness, has fullness and oppressinon in the chest, dryness in the lips and the throat, it should treat the channel by pricking the acupoints of the related channels among the fifty nine points for treating the febrile disease with the sharp-tip needle. In some of the febrile disease, the skin of the patient has the sensation of distention, the mouth is dry and the body has clammy sweat; in some of the febrile diseases, the throat of the patient is dry, he drinks plenty, apt to be frightened and reluctant to get up when lying; when treating, it should mainly prick the muscle by selecting the acupoints from the fifty nine points for treating the febrile disease with the horse -tail-shaped needle. When the canthus is red. prick the muscle in the Pishu (Spleen-shu) point. The Ganshu (Liver-shu) point must not be pricked as the liver belongs to wood and wood subjugates earth.
