营气/Ying Qi

(The Ying-energy)

黄帝曰:营气之道，内谷为宝。谷入于胃，乃传之肺，流溢于中，布散于外，精专者行于经隧，常营无已，终而复始，是谓天地之纪。故气从太阴出，注手阳明，上行注足阳明，下行至跗上，注大指间，与太阴[与太阴合:按“与”下应补“足”字]合，上行抵髀[《甲乙》卷一第十“髀”并作“脾”]。从脾注心中，循手少阴，出腋下臂，注小指，合手太阳，上乘腋出频内，注目内眦，上巅下项，合足太阳，循脊下尻，下行注小指之端，循足心注足少阴，上行注肾，从肾注心，外散于胸中。循心主脉，出腋下臂，出两筋之间，入掌中，出中 指之端，还注小指次指之端，合手少阳，上行注膻中，散于三焦，从三焦注胆，出胁注足少阳，下行至跗上，复出跗注大指间，合足厥阴，上行至肝，从肝上注肺，上循喉咙，入颃颡之窍，究于畜门。其支别者，上额循巅下项中，循脊入骶，是督脉也，络阴器，上过毛中，入脐中，上循腹里，入缺盆，下注肺中，复出太阴。此营气之所行也，逆顺之常也。

Yellow Emperor said: "The most valuable thing in the Ying-energy is to receive the cereals. When the water and cereals enter the stomach, the refined substances transformed will be transferred to the lung, overflowed in the five solid organs and scattered in the six hollow organs; the essence circulates in the channel tunnel and operates unceasingly, reaches the terminal and begin again which is identical with the law of heaven and earth. The Ying-energy starts from the Hand Taiyin Channel of Lung, it runs along the inner side of the arm, pours into the Hand Yangming Channel of large Intestine, then pours into the Foot Yangming Channel of Stomach, descends to the dorsum of the foot, and pours into the big toe to join the Foot Taiyin Channel of Spleen and reaches the spleen, then, pours into the heart through the branch of the spleen channel; then, runs along the Hand Shaoyin Channel of Heart, passes the armpit, runs along the rear of the inner flank of the arm, flows to the tip of the small finger and joins the Hand Taiyang Channel of Small Intestines then, it descends to pass the armpit to reach the inner side of the orbit, pours into the inner canthus, then ascends to reach the top of head, and descends to the neck to join the Foot Taiyang Channel of Bladder; then, descends along the spinal column, passes the sacrococcygeal region and pours into the tip of the small toe; then, runs along the sole, pours into the Foot Shaoyin Channel of Kidney, and runs along the channel to pour into the kidney, then ascends from the kidney to pour into the pericardium and spreads on the chest outside; then, runs along the channel of pericardium, enters into the armpit, descends along the forearm, enters into the palm and reaches the tip of the middle finger of the hand, then, turns back to pour into the tip of the ring finger and joins the Hand Shaoyang Channel of Triple Warmer; then, ascends to pour into the Tanzhong, spreads in the upper, middle and lower warmer, then, it pours into the hollow organ of gallbladder from the triple warmer, passes the armpit, pours into the Foot Shaoyang Channel of Gallbladder, descends to the dorsum of the foot, then pours into the to from the dorsum of the foot and joins the Foot Jueyin Channel of Liver: then it ascends along the liver channel to reach the liver, pours into the lung from the liver, ascends along the rear of the throat to reach behind the inner orifices of the nose (the two orifices on the upper end of the epiglottis), the inner orifices belong to the Foot Jueyin Channel which are different with the outer nosetrils which belong to the Du Channel. Another branch ascends to reach the forehead, runs along the centre of the top of head, descends to the neck, runs along the spinal column and enters into the sacral bone where the Du Channel passes; then it passes the Ren Channel, communicates with the external genitals, passes the pubic hair margin and enters into the navel, then ascends to enter the supraclavicular fossa, then, descends to pour into the lung, then, it begins to circulate again from the Hand Taiyin Channel of Lung. This is the traveling route of the Ying-energy and the routine of the agreeable and adverse moving of the two kinds of hand and foot channels.
