帝曰:热病已愈，时有所遗者何也?岐伯曰:诸遗者，热甚而强食之，故有所遗也[按此五字涉下疑衍]，若此者，皆病已衰，而热有所藏，因其谷气相薄[《伤寒补亡论》引“薄”作“搏”]，两热相合，故有所遗也。帝曰:善。治遗奈何?岐伯曰:视其虚实，调其逆从，可使必已矣[《甲乙》“必”作“立”]。帝曰:病热当何禁之?岐伯曰:病热少愈，食肉则复，多食则遗，此其禁也。

Yellow Emperor asked: "After the febrile disease is cured, there often occurs the remainder heat which has not been cleared away thoroughly, and why is it?" Qibo said: "The remainder heat is due to the patient's taking food with difficulty when the fever was severe.

In this case, although the disease has been alleviated, but there is still some remainder heat which entangles with the energy of water and cereals to cause it to retain." Yellow Emperor said: "Good. But how to treat the remainder heat?" Qibo said:" To treat respectively according to the asthenic or sthenic, agreeable or adverse conditions of the disease, and the disease can be cured."

Yellow Emperor asked:" What are the contraindications when one contracts the febrile disease?" Qibo said:" When the febrile disease of the patient turns to the better, if meat is taken, the disease will recur; if plenty of cereals are taken, the remainder heat will retain as well. These are the contraindications of the febrile disease."

帝日:其病两感于寒者，其脉应与其病形何如?岐伯日:两感于寒者，病一日则巨阳与少阴俱病，则头痛口乾而烦满[《外台》、《伤寒补亡论》并作“烦满而渴”];二日则阳明与太阴俱病，则腹满[《太素》“腹”作“肠”]身热，不欲食，谵言;三日则少阳与厥阴俱病，则耳聋襄缩而厥，水浆不入，不知人，六日死。帝日:五藏已伤，六府不通，荣卫不行，如是之后，三日乃死何也?岐伯日:阳明者，十二经脉之长也，其血气盛[《伤寒总病论》引“血”作“邪”]，故不知人，三日其气乃尽，故死矣。

Yellow Emperor asked: "What are the pulse conditions and syndromes of the patient who contracts cold-evil in both Yin and Yang channels?" Qibo said: "The conditions of the patient who contracts cold-evil in both Yin and Yang channels are: on the first day when both the Taiyang and the Shaoyin channels are infected, the patient will have the syndromes

of headache, dryness of mouth, restless and thirst: on the second day when both the Yang-ming and the Taiyin are infected, the syndromes of fullness of intestine, fever, detesting food, and incoherent speech will occur; on the third day when both Shaoyang and Jueyin channels are infected, the syndromes of deafness of the ears, contraction of the scrotum and Jueni will occur. If the patient refuses to drink and becomes loss or partial loss of consciousness, he will die on the sixth day."

Yellow Emperor said: "When the disease comes to the stage of all the five viscera being injured, the six hollow organs impeded, the Rong and Wei energies are disharmonious, some of the patients die on the third day, and why is it?" Qibo said: "The Yangming Channel is the most important one in the twelve channels, when the evil-energy is overabundant in

Yangming Channel, the patient is apt to lose his consciousness. After three days of the evil's attack, the energy of the Yangming Channel will be exhausted, and the patient will die.

凡病伤寒而成温[《外台》卷四《温病论》“温”下有“病”字]者，先夏至日者为病温[《伤寒论》“病温”作“温病”“病暑”作“暑病”]，后夏至日者为病暑，暑当与汗皆出，勿止。

"When a patient contracts cold-evil and then the disease turns into seasonal febrile, if it attacks before summer solstice, it is called the seasonal febrile disease; if it attacks after summer solstice, it is called the summer-heat disease. When treating the summer-heat disease, it should apply diaphorasis to let out the heat through sweating; astringent therapy

must not be used."
