6. only的译法
作副词的only可以用来修饰动词、数词、副词、介词短语和状语从句等。位于句首时，句子要求倒装。可译为“只有……才”、“只”、“仅仅”等。如：
* AIDS is only contracted from an exchange of blood or semen that contains the HIV virus.
只有通过含有HIV病毒的血液或精液的交流オ会染上艾滋病。
* It makes itself felt in a circuit only when there is a changing current.
只是在电流发生变化时，它才会被人们所觉察。
7. otherwise 的译法
otherwise作为副词，用来修饰动词和形容词等，可译为“否则”。如：
* When the tank is not in use, the pump must be kept running; otherwise, it tends to seize up.
槽子不用吋，泵必须继续运转，否则便会堵塞。
* Otherwise the program continues in sequence.
否则程序继续按顺序执行。
8. rather的译法
(1) rather作为副词，用来修饰形容词、副词和动词，可译为“相当”、“很”、“颇”等。如：
* The composition of the atmosphere is rather constant from time to time and from place to place.
大气的构成成分无论何时何地都很稳定。
(2) 有时rather常与but连用，也可单独使用，相当于instead，这时可译为“相反”、“反而”等。如：
