70年来，中国的发展不仅深深造福中国人民，也为世界和平与发展作出巨大贡献，给予我们深刻启示：
首先，中国办好自己的事，本身就是对世界的巨大贡献。中国以不足世界10%的耕地，养活世界近20%的人口，减贫人口占世界减贫人口的70%，率先完成联合国千年发展目标。中国对世界经济增长贡献率连续多年超过30%，是世界经济的主要引擎。
Over the past seven decades, China's development has not only benefited its own people enormously, but also made great contributions to world peace and prosperity. From this chapter of history, we have drawn some valuable inspiration.
First, a prosperous and stable China is in itself a huge contribution to the world. Here are some inspiring figures: China has fed almost 20% of the world population with less than 10% of the world's arable land. 70% of the world's total population lifted out of poverty are in China. And we are one of the first to meet the UN Millennium Development Goals. Contributing over 30% to global growth for many years in a row, China is acclaimed as one of the top engines of the world economy.
第二，既要让自己过得好，也要让别人过得好。中国始终坚持在和平共处五项原则基础上同各国发展友好关系，建交国从建国初期的10多个增加到179个，已是全球第一大货物贸易国，成为120多个国家和地区的主要贸易伙伴，使自身发展更多惠及其他国家和人民。
Second, a prosperous and stable China is also a great boon to other countries. China is committed to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in state-to-state relations, and its web of friends has now covered 179 countries from a mere dozen in the early days of the People's Republic. It is now the world's No.1 trader in goods and a major trading partner for over 120 countries and regions. Facts speak louder than words: China's development has delivered significant benefits to other countries and their people.
第三，中国的发展从来不以超越谁、取代谁为目标，不会称霸，也不搞扩张。中国始终是世界和平的建设者、全球发展的贡献者、国际秩序的维护者。我们努力为完善全球治理、应对全球性挑战作出贡献，积极推进“一带一路”建设，坚定推动建设开放型世界经济，是派出维和人员最多的安理会常任理事国。我们坚信，构建人类命运共同体，世界将更加美好。

Third, a prosperous and stable China has no intention to beat or displace any other country, nor does it have the slightest interest in hegemonism or expansionism. Instead, it has always been a staunch force for world peace, global development and international order. The world has become a better place because of China's contribution to global governance and to the fight against global challenges. It is a safer place as China has dispatched a large number of troops to UN peacekeeping operations, more than any other permanent member of the Security Council. And it is also more prosperous thanks to China's Belt and Road Initiative and its efforts for an open world economy. We are confident that it will be even better as we work with other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

今年也是中美建交40周年，中国的发展始终与中美关系的演变紧密交织。回顾70年，中美先后经历23年隔绝对抗，47年合作共赢。历史证明：我们有一千条理由把中美关系搞好，没有一条理由把中美关系搞坏。中美合则两利、斗则俱伤，合作是唯一正确选择。
今天，中美关系站在新的十字路口，面临复杂难题和挑战。两国必须共同承担历史责任，着眼中美17亿人民的福祉，顺应世界70亿人民的呼声，对两国关系的未来作出正确选择：
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. All along the way, China-US relations have been growing in tandem with the development of China. The past seven decades divides into 23 years of estrangement and confrontation and 47 years of win-win cooperation. History proves that we have a thousand reasons to make the China-US relationship work, and not a single reason to let it fail. History proves that both China and the US gain from cooperation, and lose in confrontation. So for our two countries, there is no better option than cooperation.
However, standing at a new crossroads, China-US relations are still faced with some difficulties and challenges. Therefore, both countries should stand to their responsibilities to history. Both countries should answer the call of the 1.7 billion Chinese and Americans and even the entire world population. And both countries should make a right choice as to the future of their relations.
