Welcome to the reception for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on October 1st.
70年前，毛泽东主席向全世界庄严宣告中华人民共和国成立，结束了中华民族自1840年鸦片战争以来内忧外患的苦难历史，实现了中国从几千年的封建专制政治向人民民主的伟大飞跃。经历了战乱频仍、山河破碎、民不聊生深重苦难的中国人民，从此站了起来！
70 years ago, Chairman Mao Zedong declared to the whole world the founding of the People's Republic of China, which ended China's more than one hundred years of darkness of domestic turmoil and foreign aggression since the Opium War in 1840, thus marking China's great transition from a millennial-old feudal autocracy to a people's democracy. The Chinese people, who once had been ravaged by war, and had seen their homeland torn apart and had lived in poverty and despair, stood up ever since.
70年来，中国经济社会发展创造了一个又一个奇迹。中国的国内生产总值（GDP）从新中国成立初期的300亿美元增长到去年底的13.6万亿美元，增幅超过450倍。如今，中国已成为世界第二大经济体、制造业第一大国、货物贸易第一大国和外汇储备第一大国。这些成就为中国未来高质量发展奠定了坚实基础。
Over the past 70 years, the Chinese people have created an economic miracle. The national output, in terms of GDP, has increased more than 450 times, from $30 billion in the early years of New China to more than $13.6 trillion by the end of last year. China is now the world's second largest economy, the largest industrial country, the largest trader in goods, the biggest holder of foreign exchange reserves, which lay a solid foundation for China's high quality development in the future.
70年来，中国科学技术取得巨大进步。中国积极实施创新驱动发展战略，在载人航天、探月工程、量子科学、深海探测、超级计算机、卫星导航等诸多领域取得重大成果。据统计，中国移动宽带用户数已超过13亿。大数据、云计算、人工智能、5G等现代信息技术方兴未艾，便利了人民群众的日常生活。
Over the past 70 years, China has made significant progress in the field of science and technology. Due to the encouragement of an innovation-driven development policy, China has made remarkable achievements in manned space flight, lunar exploration, quantum science, deep-sea exploration, supercomputers and satellite navigation. According to statistics, China now has more than 1.3 billion mobile broadband users. Modern information technologies, such as big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence and 5G are thriving in the country, and has already been introduced to the market that benefits people's daily life.
70年来，中国人民的生活质量得到了极大提升。从1949年到2018年，人均国民收入从不足70美元增长到9470美元，居民预期寿命由35岁提高到77岁。改革开放40年来，中国已经使7亿人口成功脱贫。明年，中国将实现全面建成小康社会的宏伟目标，确保在现行标准下的贫困人口全部脱贫。这在中国五千年的历史上是第一次，也是对联合国2030可持续发展议程的巨大贡献。
Over the past 70 years, the quality of life in China has improved tremendously. From 1949 to 2018, China's per capita national income increased from roughly $70 to $9470, and Chinese people's average life expectancy has gone up from 35 to 77 years old. During the past 40 years after the reform and opening up policy, China has also lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty. Next year, China will finish building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects, and ensure that Chinese people living below the current poverty threshold are all lifted out of poverty, which will be the first time in China's five thousand-year-long history, and also a great contribution to the United Nations 2030 Development Agenda.
