Remarks by Ambassador Zhang Jun at the Reception Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
女士们、先生们、朋友们：
晚上好！欢迎大家出席今天的招待会。70年前，中华人民共和国宣告成立，在中国共产党领导下，中国人民开启了人类发展史上波澜壮阔的征程。

Good evening. Welcome to this reception. Seven decades ago, the People's Republic of China was founded. Since then, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people embarked on a glorious journey in the history of human development.
这是探索前行、开拓进取的70年。我们始终立足自身国情和实践，既从中华文明中汲取智慧，又博采东西方各家之长，开创和发展了中国特色社会主义道路。中国从大规模引进来到大踏步走出去，从“世界工厂”成长为“世界市场”，不仅是全球第一大货物贸易国，更是各国企业投资的热土。我们倡导创新、协调、绿色、开放、共享的新发展理念，以进取姿态顺应全球化潮流，在探索中不断前行。高铁、电子商务、移动支付成为中国新名片，大数据、云计算、人工智能等先进技术蓬勃发展，共建“一带一路”为各国创造无限机遇。我们用实实在在的成就为世界发展贡献了中国方案。
Over the past seven decades, we have blazed a new trail and forged ahead. Based on China's reality and practice, we have found a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This path combines the Chinese wisdom and strengths of other societies and cultures. Thanks to reform and opening-up over the past four decades, China has experienced a transformation from introducing foreign capital and technology to going global with investment and from being a world workshop to a world market. Today, China is the world's largest trader of goods and an attractive destination of investment. We pursue development that is innovative, coordinated, green, open and beneficial to all. We take bold steps to adapt to global trends and explore our way forward. China has earned worldwide reputation with its high-speed rail, e-commerce and mobile payment. Advances have been made in big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The Belt and Road Initiative has created enormous development opportunities for countries involved. With real progress, we have contributed "China solution" to global development.
这是艰苦创业、真抓实干的70年。我们坚持以人民为中心发展思想，始终将人民对美好生活的向往作为奋斗目标，一步一个脚印向前走。正是靠这种苦干加实干精神，中国成为世界第二大经济体，用几十年时间走完发达国家几百年的工业化历程。2018年，中国国内生产总值比1952年增长175倍，人均国民总收入达到9732美元。过去40年，中国让8.5亿多人摆脱贫困，明年将实现现行标准下农村贫困人口全部脱贫、全面建成小康社会的目标。目前在960万平方公里的土地上，近14亿人民过着安宁、和谐、幸福的美好生活，奋力实现中华民族伟大复兴的中国梦。
Over the past seven decades, we have worked tirelessly and made solid steps in our endeavors. We put people first, work for better lives for our people, and strive to do things right each step of the way. With years of hard work and concrete actions, China has become the second largest economy in the world. It has completed the process of industrialization in several decades which took developed countries several hundred years. China's GDP in 2018 was 176 times that of 1952, and the per capita GDP that year reached 9,732 US dollars. In the past 40 years, China lifted more than 850 million people out of poverty. Next year, all China's rural poor under the current standard will shake off poverty and China will become a moderately prosperous society, achieving a major goal of national development. Today, on the land of 9.6 million square kilometers, nearly 1.4 billion Chinese are living in peace, harmony and happiness and working together to make their dream come true－the great revitalization of the Chinese nation.
这是中国与世界共同进步的70年。中国始终把自身的前途命运同世界的前途命运紧密联系在一起。我们坚持独立自主的和平外交政策，始终不渝走和平发展道路，是维护世界和平、守护国际秩序的中坚力量。中国对世界经济增长贡献率多年保持在30%以上，发挥了世界经济的重要引擎作用。中国对全球减贫事业贡献率超过70%，对外直接投资存量规模跃升至世界第二。过去6年来，“一带一路”建设不断推进，成为广受欢迎的国际公共产品，给沿线人民带来实实在在的好处，为促进各国共同发展创造新的机遇。
The past seven decades witnessed common progress of China and the rest of the world. Wit its own future linked with that of the world, China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and a path of peaceful development. China stands firm in upholding world peace and international order. For years, China has contributed more than 30% to global growth, making it a key engine driving the world economy. China has contributed 70% of global poverty reduction. The stock of outbound direct investment has grown to the second largest in the world. In the past six years, cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative has been going forward. It is a popular international public good that brings tangible benefits to people of relevant countries and creates new opportunities of common development.
