给人信息的文体包罗万象——函电、报告、报刊、广告，各自有各自的体裁，这里就无从谈起了。这里拟概括给人信息文体的基本特点使译者了解，译时才心中有数。首先，信息的目的。没有为信息而信息的文章，译者要搞清楚原作的主要和次要目的。目的常间接地表现在选材及其报道的详略中，译者要善于体会。其次，报道的观点是作为客观的第三者还是主观的自我介绍。主观的也常会以客观的形式出现。观点不要译错，特别有些作者明显地避免介入的词语要保存。再次，文体的正式或非正式或随便因内容、读者对象而不同，译者要用相应的文体。下面举三个例子：头两个是正面的，可借鉴的。后一个虽不能说反面的，但有很大缺点。这与翻译无关，但译者要知道写法。

先举一个金融方面的例子：

这一篇信息报道很明显是为发展营业，但它只讲事实。它除了介绍有关这个金融中心本身的营业外，还先介绍拉包恩岛在亚太地区的经济战略地位，后附以马来西亚政治经济稳定发展的概况，无非是为宣传这个IOFC的牢固可靠以招徕顾客，但它尽量让信息说话。它的写作特点是每段一句，每句一条信息，每条信息重点均在句末的信息重点位置，读者细读一遍自然觉察得到。为了信息显得准确可靠，用正式文体，用正式词语，由一个一个介词连成短语而按语序连成一句，结构匀称，态度严肃认真。

宣传马来西亚的部分，假如由我们来写，可能放在前面。这与英语的行文次序大有不同。在英语，一篇报道要先讲最必须让读者知道的东西。不是每个读者都能从头到尾看完一篇报道。他认为不必再看下去便停止了。“千里来龙”的写法完全不合外国读者。故不必先将马来西亚的政治稳定和经济发展宣扬一番，然后，讲到本题，那些情况许多人已经熟悉，在这里只是作为附加内容。假如译者要将一篇中文报道译为英文，而原文用“千里来龙”的写法，我看译者宜考虑是否要改变一下次序，以适合外国读者。
